Hi Guys anyone with the super split using the 6 hp Subaru Robins? How do you like it?

I am not sure if I should get the Honda Upgrade or not?

I have always been a huge Honda fan, because of reliability and noise reduction over other engines.

I want to know if the subaru robins is reliable? I was told they copied the honda and then added the overhead cam to make it even better?

Or should I op for the Honda

Thx
Doug

I wouldn't consider the Honda a upgrade to the Subaru Robyn, the Robyn's are fantastic motors, have had a generator that has one for years, run the last ice storm we had for 14 days only being shut off to to refuel and check the oil.
Never used any oil and started every time without any issues. I have other equipment with Honda's but the Robyn is every bit as good, just don't have the name recognition that Honda has. I believe some of the BS Vanguards used to be Robyn's, much better than the traditional Briggs. I personally wouldn't pay to upgrade unless there is a difference in horsepower.

Robins a great engine, dont bother upgrading unless its a no cost option.Id rather a honda GX simply for parts availability and i have 5 of them already,so i know them inside and out....but the Robin is definitely an excellent engine.

I have one on a Super splitter. Have had it for 6-7 years and had my first problem this year. The pull cord broke. I had to spend $3 to install a new one. I am kind of hard on things sometimes. The engine hasn;t always been covered. I change the oil about once a year. It has a lot of hours on it. The pull cord is the only problem I have ever had. It starts quick and runs great. Easy on fuel also. I wouldn't spend more just to get the Honda.

I seen the pics you posted of yourself, by the size of you I'm suprised you didnt rip the entire starter housing and fan shroud off the engine just starting it.......that must be one good rope....:)

I have both engines. They are both excellent. I have a subaru/robbin on my pressure washer. I have not had one lick of a problem with it. It appears to be every bit the equal of the honda. It MIGHT take 2 pulls instead of 1 to start but other than that it runs like a charm.

Guys thanks for all your input, I have not heard anything bad about the robins motors, so I will not upgrade to a honda when I order my super splitter.

Thx again it's been a big help.

Doug...

and JohnD that's some funny stuff right there, I don't care who you are..lol

What's the price break down on that..? Does it include tax...? I have my order form on the wall that I printed yesterday. SSHD w/ 6hp Robins $2650, table $274, crate $38...$2962...probably have to add another $125 for shipping.

Yeah all tax's everything included, all assembled out the door. $3300

Did you get the tow package too? I want to order a SS sometime early in the spring. Should be a little north of 3000 grand. Now I will have to second guess the honda option.

MNguns, I was quoted right around 120 for shipping if picked up at the local distributor.

I wanted to buy the used on here, but shipping was gonna cost over $400. So SS must get a decent deal on shipping.

I don't think I have ever posted my pic on here. But I'll take that as a compliment.

the Robin/Subaru is an awesome motor.

i had a 5.5 Honda on my American splitter and i swapped it out for the 9hp Robin.

it's every bit as good as the Hondas but like a previous poster, there are not as many used parts out there as the Hondas.

Maybe Im wrong, but i remember a thread where you put a pic of yourself, and I made a key note to myself to never piss you off...lol.Yes it was a compliment...i wanna go see if can dig it up now....

My buddys go cart he bought his kid has a 6.5 robin on it, and im convinced it cant be killed. His boy has been thru 2 honda 4 wheelers, and the old robin still starts in 1 pull. Not 2 pulls, but 1 pull. If that kid cant break it, it cant be broken.

No! They do not make the tow package anymore! It was about two feet off the ground and only a midget would be comfortable using it(according to supersplit)....no offense to any small people on here. I am 6'3 250lbs and there is no way I'm using something that low to ground. Everyone I talk to said I would not want it if they still made it. He also said they sold very few because it was so low.

Seems everyone is fabricating their own hitches to tow it around with an atv. I was told by the owner of supersplit that it is very top heavy and would tip over relatively easy even towing around with the atv. My brother-in-law welds, so I will fabricate a hitch and he can weld it. Once I get it I will probably extend the axles a foot on each side as well. Already been talkin it over with my dad to make a telescoping axle so it is narrow when on trailer or in pick-up and can extend when towing with atv.

Good information there Doug. I was gonna get the trailer package and had no idea it made the splitter lower to the ground. Please post pics if you do go ahead and extend the axles and add a hitch.

Good luck with your splitter!

I like Honda and the Subaru/Robin, If they were the same price I would probably pick the Robin. There both good engines!
