Hello,

Question if someone has a moment. I was considering buying a chainsaw mill from Amazon in an attempt to make some oak shelves out of some logs I have laying around. Does anyone have a recommendation on a mill ? Can my MS362 rip the boards if I have the right chain ? This is not something I would be doing a lot - this is one time thing and the logs are about 48" long. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Check out the cs milling 101 thread, tons of info there.
Short answer is yes, your saw could mill those.
In reality its a lot of setup for a short cut that will likely be uneven from the stop start so would definitely need significant additional finishing. Could be a good test project to see if you want to pursue the hobby... if that ends up being the case, plan on needing a bigger saw & replacing all the nuts/bolts if you buy a cheap chinese mill.
If you're only interested in the mill to make one set of shelves I'd say put your $ towards buying lumber instead
