Alright, I know it isn't like I restored some kind of really old, vintage saw, but all the work I put into this Super Wiz 80 was worth it. It didn't cost me much, except for my time. It started the third pull and dropped right to a nice idle. I tried it out on some poplar and it sure leaves big chips. I still prefer my saws to be red and black, but it was neat to see what an older generation saw was like(early 70's).

I tried messing with the high speed jet and didn't get any more speed out of it. It has a tremendous amount of torque, but cuts pretty slow. Is there a way to increase speed or is the governor system on this saw unadjustable?

The saw should have an air vane governor to prevent overspeeding of engine when saw is out of cut. Max no-load engine speed should be 7500 rpm; engine peak hp is at about 6000 rpm. With engine not running, check to see that the governor spring will fully open throttle when throttle trigger is squeezed to wide open position. With engine warm and running at no load, governor should limit engine speed to 7500 rpm by closing carb throttle. Check governor air vane and linkage for free operation and renew governor if worn or damaged. The manual makes no other recommendation as to an adjustment.

Thanks again for the help, Ray. How fast should the saw cut through a log with a sharp chain? I am so used to my 920 Johnny that this thing seems like it is barely moving. It makes real big chips, but it is much slower than if I made the identical cut with the 920. I will check the governor tonight. I certainly don't want to overspeed it and wreck what I have worked on.

One more thing: I know it said 16:1 for mix, but can I use 32:1 since everything else I own uses it?

Please do not consider the following as advice or condonement in any form.

I have done hours of "net research" on this topic and have heard so many different opinions, tho I would say the over-all concensus (regardless of site) is a good oil at 32 and a push toward claims of a great oil at that oil's reccomended mix.

The ratio of ratio increase with some of these products' claims just makes my skin crawl.

I'm gonna be building a model 17 and will probably go 32:1 - Good luck with your decision what-ever that may be.

Some on the forum say 32/1 is ok. I don't run the old ones much but still use 16/1 in them. If it is throwing big chips and the rpm is at spec. You could double check the chain raker setting. Should be in the .030- .040 range for 1/2" chain. In comparing the saws, you have been spoiled running that 920. :)

I think both these saws would be awesome candidates for a chainsaw powered winch. That would be novel and could come in handy. Gas powered augers...(ice fishing) -

They sell kits but they are pricey. Both saws would be considered overkill, but, no sense in taxing the engine. :p

It's a shame they didn't make those gears interchangeable.... This of course would have changed the needs of the lubricant.
