I am in the process of putting together a Super XL Auto that I refurbished (rings, gaskets, seals and new drive case). I am wondering why there is an oil line from the drive case to the back of the blanked out plunger (trigger) area. I was going to block off the fitting and eliminate the copper line ( the new drive case has a hex set screw in the oil fitting). Is this for run off? Seems to me the auto oiler and drive case tank are there own system.

Pic availible? Sounds like the pulse line - senses crank case pressure. Do not block off for saw will not run.

I don't think its a pulse line. One end goes to thumb plunger (which is blocked off - no manual plunger) and the other goes to top of drive case near bar oiler port. There is no connection to crankcase at all.

Hello sawjo,

Every Super XL I've ran across has both a manual and automatic oiler on it. Sounds like from your description you may have a handle assembly that doesn't have the manual pump portion installed. There's a plunger, spring and o-ring in the top of the handle assembly and a couple of fittings where an intake and discharge line attach. If I remember, the intake line is lower and attaches to the base of the main body housing to get the oil from the tank and the discharge line feeds to a port near the bar mount location (but it may go to a spot on the auto pump, can't remember for sure. If you don't want to add the stuff to set up the manual oiler, you should be OK to just remove the line and plug the hole. The auto oiler on the Super XL I run works good, but I do like having a manual oiler when there's "fat lightered" knots for kindling to add a little extra oil to run out the turpentine.
