Is the lean due to the decay? I don't know. why not beak off the bits of dead wood on the outside of the cavity and scoop out the loose stuff so you can measure the hollow portion?

If it's less than half of the area, maybe it's not a problem. If the tree's grown for timber it's a major defect; if for landscape then a minor one.

Post the numbers and we'll crunch them with the formulae. Also get height of tree and height of wound.

its in the middle of my backyard, Im not sure if It needs to come down or not but it could be taken down w/o any roping...

Do I really have to go into the preferences dialog box and turn on image auto-resizing before viewing the pictures then viewing the pictures then going back into the preferences dialog box and turning off the image auto-resizing to move onto other things? (Assume that I would be clicking the "OK" button as necessary to navigate around, etc.)

I'm kinda busy right now, but maybe I could find time to do it later tomorrow afternoon or evening. I'll check with my assistant to see when I have an opening. Maybe my sarcasm level will have dropped back to normal by then too... I'll have my assistant check that out as well and send everyone on the site a memo. Thanks, and thanks for the reason to talk to my assistant, she's pretty cute.

Nick, Mr. Techie, the images automatically resize on my screen.

Why not yours?

You're derailing threads so much lately, you should change your name to Shimano.

It shouldn't matter what computing device or connection speed one has. Being responsible and friendly falls to the attachment-poster, not the attachment-viewer.

Auto-resizing is not worthless only on systems that make it difficult to actually use themselves and it serves to perpetuate the computer-cluelessness condition of the operator (or one who's merely going along for the ride, as the case may be). I've never like being a passenger on a motorcycle, either; put me at the controls - I know what I'm doing.

There was so much sycamore sarcasm dripping in my post than there should have been a warning.

Derailing? I've always done this.
