I just saw this post and had to nominate Keener for 'Tall Tale of the Day'. :p

I was born and raised in Ontario and I do remember the odd cold day. Now living in coastal B.C it is warm enough (about 12C today) but working in pouring rain gets to me after a while.
It rained so hard yesterday that while topping out a willow (20ft up) a school of herring swam by,what with the water, fish and sawdust they looked like a school of breaded fishsticks passing through.:D
Any other nominations?

5' dia

I thought this was the tale of the day....

I usually don't have a problem until the trees get over 5' diameter.

How many 5' DBH trees are there in Orlando? :D

I lived in Fl for a number of years and don't recall seeing any 5' DBH trees with the posible exception of maybe a Live Oak that size.

Thank you Brian, I am honored to be nominated in the tall tale category. However it is quite true that it was raining heavily yesterday and there was a willow and sawdust. So on a percentage basis it was mostly a true story.:D

Eric-
We have lots of large laurel oaks here in Orlando also. A lot bigger than South FL, for sure. I've done close to 200 crane removals, and most of those were large laurel or live oaks. Also, the largest Cypress tree in the USA is about 5 miles from my house, it's called 'The Senator'. Look it up on the Champion Trees website (I lost the web address). I'm not sure but I think it's about 19' DBH or bigger.

There's a picture of that cypress in the new Baileys catalog, it's a beast.

I'll be down next week, can you give me the address for 3 or 4 of them so I can check them out. The Senator is 11.27' DBH, have you gone over the fence?

My wife's family has an old vacation home in Summerfield off of Lake Weir, which is an hour north of Orlando. The whole neighborhood is populated by 5'+ oaks. It amazes me how anything that big can grow in sand.
