Not really meant as a topic for discussion here, but I ran across an article this morning that I wanted to share with y'all.

I guess I don't know how to properly summarize the story <a href="http://www.sfweekly.com/issues/2003-08-13/feature.html/1/index.html">"Attack of the Smartasses"</a>, but in trying I can say it's about a forum being taken over by non-people.&nbsp; To a small(?) extent the way this one is populated.

I'm wondering if we know any of them from over there already...

Sounds like a bit of fun.&nbsp; Wish I had more time in a day these days.

WOW!

Sounds like "Roy Batty" needs to get a REAL life and of some lovin!

-'Batty' Drew

Drew's right. Unfortunately, "Drew Batty" doesn't want to get a real life.

I didn't take the time to read the whole thing, but don't you think Drew fits the profile of loner, someone who needs to maintain control and distance?

So, back to thread premise:
To a small(?) extent the way this one is populated.

OK, so I'm found out.
Eyolf is an old, seldom used viking name. Means lucky warrior. Goes with Swedish chainsaws and my Swedish ancestry, don't you think? I choose not to capitalize it as a deference to the fact that it isn't my proper name.

Plus, my real name was already registered, and I disn't like the idea of something like "Brucelikesredchainsawsalot" as a sign-on.

reading

I have to wonder if he has read the short story, I think it was "No True Names", science fiction. I have run into servers that poise as people and ask and answer questions but what does that have to do with chainsaws? Take it to off topic where it will get lost in the political BS unless it has llamas in it.

Ok so lets clarify here.

I read about 2 min of the article, thats it and didnt want to take the time to figure out what it was saying.

So I came back and just posted some lame crap that had no intentional meaning behind it, just having some fun I guess. Sorry to offend anyone if I did.

Thank you for analyzing my sign in name and my life as you so eleoquently put it eyolf, its quite obvious by your post that we have been long time aquaintances, and therefore have a valid platform from which to base your perceptions of who I am.

Respectfully-
Andrew

What language are you guys using? I think there are some aliens playing around here.

We need Fish to make some sense of this for us, sort of put it perspective, particularly the tangential parts of it.

Fish, would Dennis Hopper, happen to be one of your favorite actors?

Dennis Hopper, an actor?

Make sense of this? I only hop in and raise heck when the
poop starts getting taller than my boots, which here is too
often. There are many bogus posters making a lot of posts on
all of the forums. I never make too much effort finding out who
is bogus, or who is a bored, pie eyed kid trying to impress a bunch
of toothless, drunken chainsaw rednecks, I just employ a
shotgun approach and attack/insult them both, as my life is
quite limited and dim, and I enjoy torturing small animals.
I like this site when a few of the big guns disagree, but the
smaller discussions are just some lite filler.
Life is too short to drink cheap wine....

Cheap beer is another topic alltogether....

Excuse me for waking you, almighty instigator.

By the way, altogether has but one letter l.

As for the Dennis Hopper thing, when glen mentioned ???????s, I thought of some Dennis Hopper roles, like "Freddie the fly", and somehow you just came to mind, no offense intended.

I not a big gun, so probably would not usually catch your attention.

Excuse me.

It looks like I owe Drew an apology...I got his name and "Roy" mixed up. I know...easy mistake, especially when you're a dumb swede:eek:

Sorry,
I ommitted my hyphen, because this is a family forum.
All-together starts another tangent just by itself.
Tony, you are the moral backbone of this forum, you make things right here, and you deserve our respect.
But do not try to delve into semantics and grammar, as I am from the North originally, and am automatically and expert,
just from my geographic origins.
If one goes too far north, like Michigan and/or Canada,
then grammar and spelling goes out the window, as these folks
do not have a clue on how to properly communicate with their
fellow North Americans.
But I digress..........

i dont no what you talk about fiiish. up hea we spell just good.

We all know the real reason you moved to KY. Its the only place you could marry your cousin and be considered normal

Cousins are far enough removed to be acceptable for marriage in many locales.&nbsp; Kentucky is good for a little closer prior kinship than that; or so I've heard.

By the way, I think "Roy Batty" in the referenced story is a d<tt></tt>ickhead.&nbsp; If he doesn't like the way the forum is, he can go start his own.

I'd like to say also that I find a certain amount of enjoyment with the fun way the alter-egos interact here, and I <i>certainly</i> didn't have in mind with my likening that site to this one the use of handles instead of straight names.

Appology accepted, it is an honest mistake, I just was caught off guard by it and was quite suprised.
