Tapered hinge vs adjusted gun technique

I see a lot of videos about the tapered hinge technique and that the tree usually falls perpendicular to the back of the hinge as opposed to the front of the hinge. And then you have the adjusted gun technique and I'm wondering why you wouldn't just adjust the notch a little more (adjusted gun technique) as opposed to tapering the hinge. What's everyone's thoughts on this?
 
The tapered hinged is usually used if the tree has forces on it that are parallel to the hinge to reduce the chances of the hinge tearing out before the tree is heading the direction desired.

I believe the adjusted gun is used when a tree has a lean so that the trunk lands where you want it to.

They are not mutually exclusive felling cut.
