Have not posted here in awhile. I do some reading and searching though . Can't find a clear answer on this on my searches...so... The latest addition to my stable is an older Stihl 038. The saw is in great shape for an older saw. The top plate reads STIHL next line FARM BOSS next line 038 AVS and below that electronic quickstop. Mike Acres shows the basic 038 and the 038 mag. Is this AVS/FARM BOSS in either camp. If not can anyone tell me the displacement and any other relevant information. Thanks!!

There are 3 versions of the 038. The basic 038 (48mm piston), the 038 Super (all listed above, have 50mm piston) and the 038 Magnum (52mm piston).

Thank you Scott.

OK then does the "S" stand for SUPER? On my old 028 the SUPER was spelled out on the top plate but the model was 028 AVSQ Super.

thompson1600,

Thanks, you just answered the question I was asking in the previous post. It just seemed to have more cc's that my Jonney 625.
