Greetings, I have a question about midline eye splicing that I was hoping someone could help me with.
The application is not tree related but the concepts are the same and it is for a grade school PE gym so I would appreciate any help. I have 3/8 inch Tenex-Tec. I spliced an eye in one end according to Samson Class I Eye Splice instructions. On the other end I would like to insert 3 eyes at different points in the rope.

The rope will travel up to the ceiling, over a pulley attached to a beam, across the beam to another pulley, and finally down to a shackle on an anchor welded to the support beam on the wall (please see attached drawing). I was planning on making 3 eyes using round plait Class I Eye Splice instructions with a tail on the end and then inserting the tail into the rope using the same directions. This would allow the eye on the other side of the rope to be attached at 3 different preset heights. In the past I have used an alpine butterfly knot the achieve the same result but it is my understanding that this might keep the rope in better condition and retain more of the tensile strength.

I haven't been able to find any examples or documentation where this type of application was used. I can't imagine that it would not be safe and secure but I don't want to take a chance. Any help, advice, or alternate ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, curious what exactly is the rope being used for? And personally unless you are very confident and well practiced in rope splicing it can be very dangerous if it's being used to secure a heavy load or a lifeline. I think sticking to the alpine butterfly's is your best/easiest option.

Thank you for your replies. I am confident in my splices however I think I will likely stick to the alpine butterfly knots for the sake of time and ease of adjustability. I am comfortable with the strength of the rope even with the knots in them. I was really just looking for confirmation that adding splices in the middle of rope is an acceptable practice even though they will be pulled from multiple points.
All the best!
