It is confirmed. I have termites. Mostly just in the landscaping around the house, but I dont want them in the house. The idiot who i bought this house from bordered all the flower beds with untreated fence posts.

The "exterminator" is trenching around the house and then drilling the poison down into the ground.

Does anyone know negatives associated with these insecticides? He is going right by my raspberry bushes:help: I also have a 19 month old daughter and two dogs. I dont want anybody exposed to something bad. Any info would be appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend eating this years rasberries. Just as a precaution.

+1 on that, I put terminate stakes down every year and they seem to work. When i first put them down we had a lot of termites. Now i don't see as many. when i first put them down you could pull one out of the ground and it would be full of termites. Now i don't find too many anymore. They are kinda expensive but they work.

ask for a spec sheet on the materials they are using. they should give you one anyways.

ask questions!! no question is too dumb...especially when dealing with your and your family's health.

The stuff he is using is called termidor. I guess it is sprayed on some crops???

I use termidor myself every year. When we bought this place, it had a small infestation which was taken care of before closing. I buy Termidor online and spray every year around the perimeter of my house and even climb under the crawl space and spray along the foundation.(if you do this yourself, make sure you use a respirator!) Havent seen a bug since.
We also have children and dogs, and I cant say that we have had any adverse effects from the spraying. I make sure all the pets are locked in the house while I spray and wear coveralls that are washed outside when I am done. Havent had any problem.
I hate pesticides in general, but a guy has to do something to control little varmints. I use a large tank sprayer on my Quad and hose the yard down once a month to control these nasty little knats we have in our yard, and havent suffered any from this either.

Just a couple weeks ago I read on here about a technique to try to ward away ants/termites/etc. Go to Walmart and get some "20 Mule Team" Borax Natural Laundry Booster. It'll be the the laundry detergents section and comes in a 4 lb box. It's cheap - something like $2.50 or so.

Hand sprinkle all the way around the foundation of your house. I had an ant problem but have not seen one inside for a few days now.

just keep it away from plants...it'll kill them. i use it on poison ivy out back near the pond when i see it growing.
