Test subject: Remington sl-4a.
Symptom; Will start with starting fluid, will not run.
Description; Has more than just compression working against the starter. Not the easy start model either and whoa, that's a WDC carb. "Oh Canada..."All three adjustments outside the carb case to boot. Nice!
To be honest the case is clean (just don't get old), and inside the carb area was sweet. Running 16:1 has left everything else rough.
Methodology Of Proceedure;
Re-did the fuel line (now a standard proceedure, screw it) took the bar/chain off (another new standard proceedure) Removed the old air filter (another new standard proceedure) Richened the H & L 1/8 turn (yet another new standard proceedure because of the air filter standard proceedure) and then the experiment began.
Test product; I bought some of this "Sea Foam" in the interests of science. (And I also varied my anal fuel mix guidelines.)
Test product; I went synthetic universal for air cooled 2cycle mix. (make up a standard... it meets it) I definately poured 2.6 fluid oz into exactly 1 gal gas. I put in 3oz with "Sea-foam". Shook with vigor.
Half filled fuel tank.
I then removed the spark plug and began pulling the starter with the choke on. I did this for half a minute. I put in one cap-ful of sea-foam before replacing the spark-plug and connecting the cable. (I just felt like dumping some down there.)
First pull it coughed
Second pull it barked
Third pull woulda liked to take my arm off.
The saw ran a little in choke but couldn't sustain when I removed it.
Did the same thing again, and the same thing happened. Fancy that.
Then I only half returned the choke and it was still running. (No mention of half choke in directions) I goosed it a couple times and emitted the thickest cloud of white smoke... I then removed all choke and it was running pretty well. The saw seems to continually run better on it's first go round. I can actually feel it smoothing out as I go. Gonna follow up on it tomorrow maybe.
I think I'm in the market for a sprocket. Gotta check out the oiler yet.
