Yup - go 220 or go home.
Interesting!

I guess I'm in the "go home" camp for now. I'm going to see how this fall goes with my SS wired 110v. I did speak with Paul @ SS regarding this wiring issue. I told him that I wanted to be able to run my SS in my garage as well as 100 feet from my outlet out at my stacks. We talked about circuit trips and he was quite confident that I would not have any problems running a 100ft of 10ga extension cord on a 20amp dedicated circuit; so far, so good. Interestingly, Paul also mentioned he had customers powering the SS with less than 1hp (I think he said 1/2, but I really can't recall).

Also spoke with an electrician and he assured me that a dedicated 15amp circuit would be fine with the Marathon 1hp motor as it is rated at 13.4 full load amps.

I did a lot of online research regarding this topic and found so many different opinions, I couldn't tell what was true and what was just opinion and bias. In the end, I decided to go with what Paul and the electrician told me. If this advice proves to be incorrect, I will certainly post here to let everyone know. Of course, conversion to 220 is always an option if needed.

I will never split more than 10 cord/year with this machine and likely it will be in the 4-5 cord range once my 5 year supply has been established.

Happy splitting everyone! Will let you know how it goes.

I have had mine running for some time on 110v. I do use a dedicated circuit and a 10 gauge cord. I believe the cord is a key factor as a smaller or common extension cord will guarantee a tripped breaker. Works just fine with this setup. Had I not read this thread I would have had no thought of switching it to 220v.

I have a bigger motor on mine - I can't remember hp right now - but it kept tripping 20a breakers even when nothing else was on. And the power wasn't so great either. Once I switched to 220, all problems left. I've got a 10ga 50-foot cord and installed proper outlets in the two locations I need.

110v for a 1 hp motor is fine, as long as the cord gauge is large enough for it's length.

I had planned to put a 2 hp elec on mine, just haven't done it yet.
