Felled a maple (~25"diam x 50') yesterday....two stems separated from the main trunk about 10 above the base.....I used a stout rigging rope and girth hitched the 2 stems together a couple of feet above where I made my face/back cuts. Felling went smoothly but the twin stems definitely moved somewhat separately and would have come apart on impact with the ground if I hadn't tied them. My quick rope securing them together held just fine and what could have been very exciting was routine.:rock:

I think I read about that technique here (using ratchet straps) and also in GB's book (which I also leaned about as a result of this site!!)

Thanks folks!
