Thanks a bunch to all of you for your willingness to share your experience, knowledge, tips and tricks...was thinking that a mere 15 years or so ago, exchanging information like this on a computer was almost unheard of...20 years ago...we didn't know we would be. I didn't have the ability to find answers to my technical questions at the touch of a button or two...or meet nice folks with similar interests and not even have to leave the comfort of home...now I'm leaning towards getting a new saw shortly after Christmas...nothing to compete with but something to use on the 18 acres we have here and I'm in the process of clearing property lines for fence installation so I'm looking at something in the middle commercial range...Echo's are well thought of down here and the Echo salesman tells me that the CS-520 would fit my needs...comes with a 20" bar and chain or you have the option of a an 16" or 18"...anybody have an opinion?

Loggerhead,

While I don't have any experience with the 520, I surely love my CS-300 and CS-670. I'm sure the 520 is a good saw. My experience with Echos are that they are fairly bullet proof.

That's what I hear down my way lott...I sure like my Echo trimmer and blower and even more, that I have a dealer and parts right here in my small town...that 670 looks like a hoss with that 24 inch bar but I'd have to wait for my trees to get bigger to justify it to the better half...she'll be out there measuring if I'm not careful...thanks!

I'm really happy with it. Almost bought the CS-8000 but the guys here got me all excited about the Stihl MS-460 so I ordered one of those today. I think I would be equally happy with the CS-8000, but will try a Stihl on for size also. What the heck. So many saws, so little time.

Maybe so, but the bigger Echos are way down on power output and power to weight ratio compared to Stihl, Husky, Jred and Dolmar saws of about the same size.
It is for a reason that they keep a very low profile regarding the power of their saws.

Their saws arent necessarily top on the power scale, but their trimmers, and turf care equipment, is almost unbeaten in power. I gotta love the Echo 260 series trimmers, and the PB650 blowers. something about those machines just thrills me even though the Stihl BR600 is clearly king of blowers.
