Didn't feel myself today... and 25 years of training has taught me that if I hang around the house wasting time, some disagreement would ensue...

The neighborhood was silent. No sounds... no movement... Hmmm.... Out with the 066; it's not all that loud  Time to mill something and sweat out my indulgences. Time for for EVERYONE to get out of bed. Crappy day anyhow - rain, sleet and melting slush

The wife's been suggesting that I build a 'bridge" across a little creek that flows in the forest. It has been on the "honey do" list for about 16 years, so... My usual excuse is "no wood", but given the recent events, I sure can't use that one any more.

Before:

Milling in the dead fall - red cedar - nice rot resistance in the heart wood

This will do nicely for the deck - 3 inches thick will be enough ;)

The final product. Hmmm... that wood would have made a nice table (but that's on the "list" too). Plenty more where that came from.

What you don't see is the wheel barrows of gravel, the concrete block bulkheads... and the sweat.. Finished in the dark... and by then it was pouring.

Wife says - "what have you been doing all this time? It didn't have to be a work of art". I told her it wasn't...

But the hangover is gone :) and I'm sure I've earned some brownie points.

Heavy Duty !!

Looks great. I also believe, there's no such thing as OVERKILL. Watta ya gonna do, ride a horse over it?

Nice pictures Lake. You dont see any of those ferns around my parts (out in the woods anyway).

Maybe ;)

Actually.. it will save me a bunch of grief hauling wheelbarows of rounds out of the woods, but that wasn't my motivation :D :D :D

There is a second type of ferns you don't see this time of year -they die off in the winter, but really explode in the spring. It's one of the reasons why I need to clean this mess up before March....

Lake, Nice job, nice pics............They may have not before
said any thing about the milling noise, but I bet all that you
have done for the neighborers after the storm that you can
use a saw when you wan't as long as you want and nobody
will say a word about it............:biggrinbounce2:

Nice looking "foot" bridge Lake. No way am I letting the boss in the next couch read this thread! She'll get the idea that "work" can actually be done on New Year's day, something I've spent the last fifteen years training her can not be done.:bang:

Your red cedar looks very similar to our Eastern variety, if larger. I love working with it, smells nice, pretty heart wood and will last longer than most of us. Plus it keeps insects and other pests away.:blob2: The E.R.C.'s heart wood is darker though, almost the color of semi-dried blood.

Hang Overs.

Good observation.
That may be used more commonly, now that you mentioned it.: clap: This may start a whole new thread. Or, another word to look up in the treedictionary.com ( hangover )
