I just competed yesterday in the local Pen Del TCC. Even though it was nothing spectacular on my part I am quite pleased with the results. This was my first year going and not being banged up or just out of surgery. I wasn't out for blood just to have a good time and hang out with friends. I made it to the masters challenge that day and DQ because I left one glove on that I use to throw my zing it. Half way through the climb I must have lost my mind and through my glove out of the tree. In the end when they anounced the winners to my surprise I took 1st place in the work climb beating the local legend who I would never think could be beaten especially by me. That made it all worth it.

SWEET!!!

Right On! Sorry about the DQ. Did they call you down out of the tree? How did you do in the AR? What was the fastest time in the FL, was it 15m or 40ft? Shoot I'm asking for all the results. Do you have them...

Did you see anyone w/ the Kolibri Multislide saddle?

No they didn't call me out of the tree, they showed me the glove when I got down and they went to decide on what to do. The fastest time was 19 sec. and that was 15 m. I didn't place in the AR. I had some hockles in his rope at 4 feet from the ground I was one of the first on the rescue and those hadn't gotten worked out yet. And no I didn't see the saddle you mentioned. My time on the footlock was 35 wich was about average of the I believe second and third times were like 32 and 34.

What a great day for tree climbing.. sunny and 80*... shady under the trees...
I don't have many still shots because I was running the video camera all day. Got some great footage... i think its hard to remember what happenned when in or even watching the heat of competition/performance... The tapes are ther to reveiew and learn from.....

Jon's work climb was a flawless excercise in climbing mastery... I can't even put it into words just how sweet it is... 2:45 sec... just watching that on the tv brings me joy... To tell you the truth that kind of performance is what I AM used to seeing from Jon. He absolutuely smoked the crowd, including Roachy, whom won that event at the ITCC lasy year...

Jon hit the stick throw on the first try. I actually had a friend running the second camera which showed the stick hitting the bucket and other B roll shots... should make a good piece if we ever get to editing it.

The DQ on the Master's challeng3 was unfortunate... a mental error which is easy to make. KNowing the rules and scoring systems etc.. is huge.. This was my first (as a spectator) and Jon's third competition... I think he's just getting a feel for what he is capapble of... In reviewing the tpaes, it's clear to me that Jon and Roachy are in a class by themselves (world class) with Mike Teddi looking like he can produce on the job, but lacks the grace that comes with mastery, and everybody else back quite a distance.

Watching those tapes, one can only say that Roachy is a machine on the footlock... He took 16 bights, 49' in 19.12 seconds.... And he hesitated just as he reached the bell.. costing him a good half a second or more. I doubt I could run 49' of stairs in 19 seconds. Watching him rock the craddle is pure mastery, and a great joy to observe...
Rocky, email me your address and I'll send you a copy. That should be inspiring

I didn't get to see his look as I was sitting behind Jim when they announced the winners. I am sure he wasn't really surprised. Jim isn't exactly the cocky type competitive yes. I'm sure he was happy for me. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for Jim.

If BigJon and Roach don't mind, i'd love to get a view of the video. I think it would be educational for an upcoming competitor like myself.

video documentary

I just realized after talking to Jon that I got pretty good footage of 5 of the 6 event winner's performances and lots of other good footage last Saturday. The only event I missed was the winning performance on is the throw ball... though I got a couple of good shots of the throwball winner throwing in the Masters Challenge...

I could probably have a nice piece editted at a very low cost.. I think the climber's would probably sign releases and a good 20-30 minute video could be produced and sold cheaply... Part of my thinking is that there are a lot of tree workers out there that have zero knowledge that work can even be done at this level and once they see it on video, it may inspire them to learn knew school and advanced climbing techniques, etc...

And it might also be a great boost for the ISA and getting a lot of treeman out there interested in attending competitions... I know for me a whole new world of possabilities openned up after attending a one day training with Mark Chisholm... And more than the theory it was merely watching that man move through a tree that blew the lid of my ceilings...

What do you all think???

WOW you guys are ruff .Huscky 288 who are you ? its obvious you dont know me at all!How did I react..with shear joy and pride for someone who Imay have just helped a little.I finished my workclimb in 2.10 but no stick in the barrell and only a 3 point landing .I am fast but rarely get all the bonuses ,this is what I told John ,"stay close get the bonuses and you can win the work climb"and he did and I could not have been more pleased than if I had won myself.
That being said we must bare in mind that the workclimb is only one event and that your total point value is the key ,I did finish 30 points over the second place finisher so I'm not washed up yet. Also to represent in our chapter you must do the masters run off I expect both John and myself to do well.
I was also very proud of the fact that that 3 of the top five were from my co.as well as the first place apprentice.and two other men who had very respectable days
Cant wait to hear hoe John did in the west

Yes, it was a great event. I was glad to meet many I've exchanged thoughts with here on this site.
