Some of the work on that project was done on our property. Our "official" obligation to leave the study stands was over a couple of years ago. A Certain Somebody pitched a fit when we started planning to put that land back into thinning rotation. Ah, well, progress marches on. Politics? Standing still.
 
There were several studies conducted at the same time looking at how different treatments affected multiple variables, such as blowdown, wind-hardening, reprod vigor, and disease containment. That unit in the Cascades was one of several study areas.
 
Nah, just setting up an test area. First thing to do is remove all competing vegetation.

Fitst thing I thought of was 360 yarding.
 
why hasn't anybody cut those down yet...

The wiki article says they removed few larches in order to blur the pattern, but it's still visible. Obviously cutting all the larches wouldn't work either. I just wonder how come they never called me? I'd know how to handle it.
