Ok I have really wanted to start milling my own wood. However with a budget of $150.00 and had no idea of how, I had to really think outside the box. So a searched this forum and started gathering all the info I could.
After many nights of reading and searching. I got started.
First I found an old stihl 056 super in a shed. $25.00 not running but pulled hard.

After cleaning her all up rebuilding the carb $11.35
New plug $3.25
She came to life. I went ahead and ordered the parts for the bosh ignition rebuild $10.65 just in case.
New 36" bar and chain feom bailey's $119.85
I went to work on gathering scrap.

I fond some angle iron, square and rectangular tubing, and a cool 10 in aluminum chanel.
I started cutting and welding, and....

Tomorrow I will start on my first cut brackets and see if I can get some first cuts in.
I also want to add some kind of handle bars and throttle control so I do not have to lean over or be right above the saw. But first I will test this out.
Would you guys like to see video as well?
If so I will start videoing stuff.

why not drill the bar and remove the spikes for the extra length, unless that was the length of your scrap steel
I couple of reasons.
One is that I still need to use this saw for felling and blocking any of our larger trees.
Two is scrap limitations
But as it sits I should have no problems doing 29" wide cuts and I only have about 3 trees on our property that are larger then that.
I am also going to do a mini mill jig to be able to do vertical side cuts.

By my insane guesstamations I should be able to handle 36" wide trees that is a big oak and I do not want to mess with anything bigger.
Thank you for asking though.

I get decent chips from the 660Mag in the wider cuts and it does like the larger sections, almost better with the load
the spikes should be just a T27 driver bit(it does use t27 heads??) away from balancing the power head , saying so i haven't always either but its not hard to take on/off, bucking/ trimming should be done with a smaller saw. I use the 026 while milling, the 18" handles all the wood, from 2 sides if needed

your right bigger needs a bigger saw ie the "BIL MILL"
and on the scrap as well

cheers
