Just opened up today's paper and saw the next generation of Homelites, as seen by TechTronics (Ryobi's owner).

I can't be sure, but I have the sneaking suspicion that this might not carry on the legacy of my SXL-925 too well.

I'll put my XL-12 up for sale, a 30 year old Homelite should outlast a new on don't you think?

Probably the best power to weight ratio Homelite has ever acheived. ( I'll go hide while the Homely lovers seek my destruction.LOL)

"how would you like to be a Homelite dealer?"

Are there any? I mean any that depend on the name and the product for any significant part of their new product sales? There are a few around yet that keep their shingle out as a service to old-time customers, and as a way to maintain traffic, but I'll bet it's awful hard to find a servicing dealer that has any meaningful investment in the consumer saws made in the last 10 years.

It's a pity. Homelite was once one of the greatest names in the world. Somewhere in the world, there are a few people who remembered that, and looking back, probably shrank from the vision of what Textron had ultimately made of their company when the big returns started to go south.

And there are some who couldn't care less.

A pox on 'em.

It seems that all American chainsaw companies couldn't do the pro thing after Brands S, H, and J got established in the US. That makes me sad, plus the fact that the only Homelite "servicing dealer" within driving distance won't sell you parts.

I'd like to see a big, wealthy US company buy Homelite next time it goes up on the market. See what they can do to start cranking out top level saws and reverse ~15 years of crap. Probably isn't going to happen with all the R&D costs the EPA regs cause now, but still...

Don't kid yourselves into thinking that American technology and the workforce can't resurect a company like Homelite and make it great again. Just a few short years after buying their company back from AMF, Harley Davidson employees last year made their company the number one seller of motorcycles in the US; dethroning Honda after a 30 year reign. It can be done.

Yeah Doug, nice avatars! That Piano looks so enticing. That XL925 looks like a giant version of an XL103 I just picked up.

I actually have a VI-123, which is a 3.5 CID XL-100 with AV mounts and a decomp valve. Currently waiting on some parts--nice saw.

Bounciest avatar I've seen. :)
