Yep.. Stihl needs serious competition to drive them forward... or at least make them glance into the rear-vision mirror now and then. God forbid they end up owning the mid-range and pro market.

i am glad to see this as well but........

i don't have a problem with the box stores selling a couple of the low end consumer saws like lowe's does.northern does sell most of the line but i never saw a deal at northern on anything.
i bought my 357xp online from a place in illinois but it was a damn good deal.i will buy a used saw on ebay if i get a deal but i have since started buying at the local dealer.they are good folks and i appreciate the family business thing.they always give better prices when i ask.even on stihl.

one thing i will say, husqvarna needs to crack the whip on their reps.husqvarna displays are usually a joke.stihl has them beat in this arena.when you walk into a stihl dealer, they usually have a nice wall display.not a big deal to someone that is brand loyal and knows what they want but i think it is key to lure in new buyers. especially the homeowner.

AGREED 100%. When competiton is heavy and its fought for thats when the makers make the best products. It bennifits the buyers when competition is fierce not only in price but quailty, hot diggy dog.......................

Well, I think the whole thing SUX!!!
I have bought one saw from Bailey's, simply because they offered something that my local dealer couldn't.
I have however bought many saws from my local dealer over the years. In order to get a decent price, I would tell them if they could come within $75.00 of what I have to pay Bailey's (including shipping), I'd buy from them.
Now if that's not supporting my dealer, tell me, what is? But now I have no leverage. So I guess if I buy a new Husqvarna I'll just have to take it up the @$$, or I could exersize my options and buy a Stihl, and take it up the @$$.
Here is the nice part. My local dealer dropped Husky because of the all or nothing deal. So now my "local" dealer is 135 miles away. Maybe if Husqvarna took care of their consumers, the rest would have a chance of taking care of itself.
Husqvarna is "protecting" it's dealers. Who the He11 is protecting me?

Andy

O.K., we all hate Lowes and Home Despot, but what about Bailey's?
Anybody have a bad word to say about them?
The saw I bought from my local dealer had the wrong gauge chain on it.
The one I got from Bailey's was perfect.
Bailey's is a sponsor and a dealer, they sell good saws with good service at good prices. What about them? Don't they deserve support?

Done did it thanks. :rockn:

95% of the dealers are idiots, crooks, or both. Thats a fact of life.

Thank god only 85% of customers will lie to you about how something got broken. What they paid for their last unit. How well they maintain it. How much the last place charged them to service it.

This type of thinking doesn't get anyone anywhere.

Maybe a better way to say it would be: 95% of the dealers you have visited personally or done business with are crooks. Divide the number you have personally been to by the total number of dealers available and this broad generalization holds a lot less weight.

I think if you or anyone else has ALL the answers. PLEASE help us honest dealers out and pony up $100,000 and the rest of your knowledge and become one of the "5% that are good dealers". In your opinion you would be one of the few and that would make you one of the best. I'm sure that then we'd have a new millionaire in a few months?

Like I've said before. A few bad experiences witht he local A-Holes and a person can be turned against the entire section of the population.

Not trying to pick a fight. Just trying to keep everything in the realm of reality.

In reading my own post I just realized that Strata-G Communications is from the Cincinnati area. (Area code 513.) This is Stihl territory around here. I wonder who Jon Reischel would refer me to here locally? No one stocks any parts last time I checked. A tractor dealer who is a Husqvarna dealer inside the I-275 loop has gallon jugs of Husky bar oil priced at over $23 per gallon. (He lowered his price from around $28 last spring.) I ended up going to Dewar Equipment Company. Bought 3 cases ( 6 gallon each case) of Stihl oil for $96 plus tax.

and while ive not been to every stihl dealer--ive been to the three in my area--and as bwalker said--all three are a bunch of crooks--with a smile on there face--and no vaseline----
