My main spot is a muddy mess thats not worth getting stuck in right now. Its also getting picked apart by about 20 different people starting to look alittle slim back there lately. So i found about 5 houses in town with some nice sized wood laying out front. 4/5 didnt even have a chimney or any other sign of wood burning. All had serious attitude problems and denied cleaning it up for them. I even offered money just cause i felt like running the new 044. The other person that looked like they had a fireplace had about a cord stacked out back which was completely rotted wood. Really dont understand. I garuntee i drive past there next month and its still sitting outside. None of the wood was walnut cherry or oak but people think a knotted up log laying out front is worth thousands it seems. Going to have to buy an atv and get back in the woods behind my house that the farmer owns. Figured i would share the frustration of scrounging. Havent had to scrounge in awhile i forgot about the struggle

Just keep turning over every leaf figuratively. You'll find a honey hole sooner or later.

It is pretty funny that people think their yard trees could be premium saw logs lol.

Yes until it sits so long then the boss of the house speaks up and all of a sudden they have a free sign out front and i miss it. I have plenty of wood to cut just not worth the hassle to get to. Hopefully one day the farmer or his son sells the woods behind us which he will ask a high premiun for... for the guys that scrounge and can only scrounge i felt the pain today especially with the new saw staring me in the face everytime i go to the garage

Don't scrounge per se, turn it around, make the scrounge come to you and make them pay! People pay to have trees cut all the time, take what jobs you are comfortable with, and haul the wood off.

My yard tree is costing me money. brand new loop of semi chisel dpx, didn't make it one tank, hit..something... and it knocked a buncha teeth points off. I actually paid the shop today to hit it with a grinder, I'll keep using that loop until the tree is cut. Incidentally, the boss's elderly housekeeping couple came by, mesmerized by the big tree, they have been watching once a week when they come over as it gets whittled down. He asked me if I had counted the rings, said no, but on the way out they stopped for pics and I climbed up on the stump and counted, 118. About as old as the cabin. No telling how many kids treehouses and rope swings built on this tree, or bullets fired in it, etc. I think I have been lucky so far and only trashed one chain. Had to be a new one though, first use....I have several more longer new or near new chains now to switch to.....we'll see how it goes. Local dealer for some reason can't get me any semi chisel longer than for a 24" bar, so guess I'll have to order some from a sponsor or something. I hates using my nice full chisel on this tree.

Said he has had all kinds of people say they will take it. They show up put the bar up to the trunk and clearly under estimated it muahahah. Sorry about your luck Zog. That stinks.

I only order my bigs chains from Bailey's or Left Coast Supplies. They are priced per link and reasonable.

Ya man, pics! We loves dem monstah treez!! Each round is gonna be about a one ton load.

Monster for around these parts on know the guys outwest would say tiny. But this thing is huge ancient oak. Found out it swallowed an old chain hanging off of a branch where a tire swing was. They said it was almost 3" into thr branch. Guess the tree service ruined a chain on that branch as well. Same with the yard tree story. These trees in town are mammoth compared to stuff i notmally deal with. Cant wait to put this 044 to the test. Prob eat a tank of fuel on just a few cuts with how solid this thing is. Gonna be great for the stove in a couple years haa

They ARE valuable....to a tree service. My 4 just cost me $400 to get all the drooping limbs pruned. About 3/4 hour work for one guy in a bucket and I did the cleanup.
