Since 036pro want's the Ponsee' thread back , i stated this one. I beleave that the ultimate thinning yarder would be mounted on a tmbco/timber pro forwarder frame. The boom at the cab would hold a harvester head and the rear would hold a 40-50' tower like a Madill tower and it would sport 3-4 guy-backs. Not to mention it would also be a three drumb yarder W/ a strawline drumb. As for a carriage my choice is an eagle-eaglet.IMHO ofcourse:msp_thumbup:

the ultimate yarder would hookup its own turns. since that's not going to happen give me some chokers and a saw as I head down the hill...:greenchainsaw:

I'm cheap so I would probably go with one of them christy type carriages... them motorized ones cost almost as much as a used yarder...

If I could I would go with a 4 drum with straw line, and 3-4 guys. Maybe a skidder mount rather then forward, (unless the forwarder still has its boom then...) Although I like the roadable self propelled type (once again chrystie) or at the very least a very small yarder that is towable by 3/4-1ton truck. For a gypo like me staying small is the name of the game.

Far as tower height 40-50' would be nice... but realistically I'm thinking 30' would serve my purposes. Rigging a back spar isn't all that hard, and the kind of work I do reaching out 4000' is more then a little absurd...

Granted this is all just a pipe dream...

Yes its all a pipe dream, for right now. The reason i want to mount one on a forwarder is so the log boom portion can have a harvester head on it to feed the landing/trucks. the tower would be placed on the back half of forwarder. View attachment 302416. The boom is crucial to keeping a small crew. I would want to run automatic chokers and get a little Eaglet or acme carriage. This would create a very functional set-up for a 4-person crew(i say person because my 16 yr. old daughter wants to set chokers). One operator, one choker setter, one cutter, and 1 person to float between landing/hooking/falling. For the ultimate yarder the crew would have to rotate out hookers to keep the brush fresh and the landing busy. Europe has been using this model for a long time, that is where the seed got sprouted to "BUILD THE ULTIMATE YARDER". Youtube has some real neat vid's of the Europeans logging.Good stuff. This is just a $200,000 dream, that's all:msp_wink:
