Roller nose, they were fairly common on vintage saws and sort of fell out of favor when the sprocket tips became more available. They basically did the same thing, relieve some of the friction/heat a chain made going around a solid nose bar.

I see it's just a pulley not a sprocket. That's why I wanted a better picture as was curious if it had driven teeth.

The problem with the roller nose bars is that sawdust or twigs can get caught in the gap between the bar and the roller and jam the chain.



there was another style of roller nose that had less of a gap and would have been less prone to jam but still has the potential.



Roller nose bar work well for reducing friction and do allow you to run any pitch chain, but they are not a great choice for bore cutting or for use when the bar will be buried.

I got lucky and got two of them , they rarely come around in N.O.S.

2 different ones in black and 2 different ones in the silver.

More geared to racers now.

I sold all my older rollernose bars off to others.

Fossil came across a stash of NOS Sabre roller nose bars to fit the smaller McCulloch & Poulan saws a few years ago and was kind enough to share the wealth.



I picked up a few NOS Oregon roller nose bars this year, unfortunately they were stored under less than ideal conditions.

I had a rollernose on 026 and a 346. But sold those bars off too.

Had a nice oregon onewith the screen print still there like new for 372 too.
