A few friends and family have had knee replacements, all have benefited greatly. Best wishes for a speedy recovery on your second one!

I had my right knee replaced June 7th. Recovery has been slower than I had hoped, but the docs wanted to replace mine 9 years ago. They say that since i waited so long before having it done that full recovery might not be possible and I could have limited movement from now on. I'm at minus 5 degrees for straightness and 118 degrees for full bend. I am getting around pretty good and the pain comes and goes. Sometimes for no reason. Only piece of advice I can give is work on getting the leg straight as fast as possible. Seems to me recovery comes in leaps and bounds. One day you cant move your leg and the next day you can kick up your heels. Good luck with the surgery and recovery

Muddsttoper, your not doing bad. I had my left knee done last November,3. I first had it looked at in 1999. Had torn ACL and no Cartilage. Was too late to fix ACL. Worked on it from 1999 to 2015, for UPS, running all day. The last three years I walked on it stiff legged, like a peg leg. For those that don't know, sticking your leg out straight is Extension, and 0 degrees is perfect. Bending your knee is Flexion, and 130-140 degrees is perfect.I'm getting 5 degrees or less straight out which makes walking easy. I don't limp, and most people can't tell. Since my knee was so bad they said I'd be lucky to get to 90 degrees. I'm a little better than 90, and get around fine. I was on my farm last weekend and I do have to pick my path walking through the woods. Stepping over logs is a little hard, walking around them is easy. I have absolutely no pain. Where the leg bones rub together after your cartilage is gone makes two groves. My surgeon calls them rail road tracks. When the bone would twist and pop out of those tracks it was incredible pain, and then twisting it to get it back in was just as bad. To anyone need this done, DON'T BE A WUSS, get it done now.

Al, you already had one so you know what to do, good luck and keep us up to date, Joe.

I couldnt imagine having both knees done at the same time. I dont need the other knee done and glad I didnt. My biggest problem now seems to be excessive walking. Going out side and walking around the house isnt bad, but walking out the drive way and back causes swelling and pain. The real hard part is being bored to death all the time. You want to do things and when you do you suffer for it afterwards. They gave me a JAS, (joint alignment system) a few weeks ago that is supposed to help with getting my leg straight. Problem is that once its strapped on, you are immobile and left with only being able to watch tv. I also cant tell its helping anything and considering just sending it back.

the thing is I feel you have to [put effort into the PT or you are not going to be happy with the results. Mine hurt like *ell and the girls wanted me to slow down but I wouldn't and recovery now is fine. I walk my dogs 2 miles a day in the morning and 2 miles more in the evening. I even fell on a sharp stick and ripped the incision open to the point they had to put in 6 stiches.

Thanks for the offer to supply me with wood if needed Casey. I have 5 friends that would do same too.

Al, your about 2 months ahead of me having the surgery. Hopefully I will feel the same as you do now in a couple more months. I go to PT three times a week and to the gym for two more days. Working mostly on the bike for stretching and another bike like machine for strength, always doing some sort of stretching. I do deep knee bends at the kitchen bar two or three times a day. Leg lifts several times a day and wear that blasted JAS for 3 or 4 hours at a time. Put new brakes on my truck yesterday and woke up at 3am this morning to take pain pills. To much squatting I guess. I have found that the JAS brace seems to help control the pain and I put it on at 5am this morning and took it off at 7am. Whether its actually helping get my leg straight I am not convinced yet.

I did the bike to no where, the stair stretch and climb forward back wards and side ways. did the kicks forwards back wards and side ways to, Marching steps squats, then the leg lifts on a machine you lay on 30 times at 75 pounds, another leg lift on a cable machine you stand up to do with a rear kick 25 pounds 40 times. Did that 3 times a week for 1.5 hours. Did leg bends at home in bed using a belt to see how far back I could bend the knee, Leg lifts with strap weights 10 pounds. got out of a dinning room chair no hands and of course the marching steps they were having me do at PT.

Do these with out weight to start.

This one works at home in bed too, the lift and the bend both.

6 days from today.

I tried doing leg lifts on a weight machine last week. Couldnt lift 15lbs. It was 3 weeks after surgery before I could lift my leg at all. Doctor says my muscles have drawn up over the years of waiting which is what causing my problems. I will say that one day I couldnt lift my leg even a few inches and the next morning I could lift it straight up and did 20 rep's. Putting off the surgery just makes recovery harder when you do have it done.

Think and hope I have enough winter wood up. Normal winter I go thru about 12 face cord.

8 more days and I will be getting a new right side knee. Got a new one in April on the left side.

Good luck with the knee replacement surgery. They are very good at it no too. I hope you already have your four cords dry stuff so you wont be delayed. Is that fresh cut stuff for next year then?
