No photoshopping of the sun. This is how things look all the time. I volunteered my time today to go see if a rumor of a creek washing out a trail crossing was true. It was not. We walked two miles in to check it.

This was the muddiest spot. I had a photo of thick brush. Oh well.

The Used Dog seemed to be going well, so I decided we'd head on up. I'd never been past the creek.

SQUIRREL!

I failed to mention that I wore shorts and had a light pack--no 10 essentials, my bad! We got up into the fog and within spitting distance of the Pacific Crest Trail when I felt the damp cold. We turned back shortly after these pictures were taken. Bet it is pretty up here on a rare, sunny day. We hiked a total of 8 miles....and are now feeling it.

Brookings got expensive over the past decade.

Yup. I've been looking at property online and comparing it to other areas. Brookings is anywhere from 15 to 25% higher than most other areas for comparable square footage or acreage or whatever means of comparison you choose.
Want to see some high priced acreage? Take a look around your old stomping grounds in the Mattole. Pot grower land prices are way out of line. Old retired logger types can't compete with that kind of money.

Last weekend. I went on a wilderness trail logout. I couldn't find my camera for the heavy duty day which was Saturday. I did meet an A-S member who is a very competent and experienced sawyer. That makes a big difference. Because it was wilderness, we could only use hand tools. Those guys not only know how to cut with the least amount of effort, they know leverage methods and log whispering...:) After you get the tree cut, you have to move it off the trail. We didn't pack in peavies.

Here's a picture from day 2, and I photoshopped the sun in. This person just moved to Oregon from.......Ohio.

I'm not moving there. Fortuna possibly. Maybe Crescent City or Brookings.
I have to have a little sunlight occasionally.

RandyMac...do you know a link to a map of the runup area for CC?
Hey Bob we have a great rainy day hike planned for you
Jani and I had lots of mud and fog on our Saturday hike the woods are nice and dap I like that in August guessing well make rest of year without anymore west side fires. The cool damp September night's are just around the corner.

I saw the pictures of that goat trail you and Jani hiked.! You guys are braver than me. I'd have been crawling along on my hands knees, whimpering for mercy.

If it rains on us this time around SlowP will probably kidnap us all into the shop and make us help finish her kayak.

We'll bring in The Thugs and shut the doors and The Grapple Cat will make it interesting.

This is in the "front country". I tried to capture the steepness below the road, but it was too steep for that. If you did go over the side, one of the high stumps made that way to try to hold logs in place might catch your vehicle, but high stumps often didn't work to hold logs--rumble rumble rumble, THWACK. Our area is not a good place if you are acrophobic. Iowa is the place to be for people with that malady.

I saw this cheery sight. I did some of the recon in this area. "At Least We Are Cutting Something."
