Well, the RA started this afternoon after about ten pulls. High end is good but it is starving for fuel at idle. Off comes the carb again.

Here are some before and after pics. Not really a complicated project like the HM, just a lot of time cleaning and painting. Found the correct seals this time so no machining. Also got some NOS parts that added nice detail.
I added a photo of the carb mounting flange. I learned years ago on Holley carbs that sufaces must be flat if you want them to seal. Ever since, I carefully run a flat machine file over most sealing surfaces, even inside the carb (except for those surfaces that have sealing ridges). This is especially important around screw holes as the outer threads tend to lift out a little. You can see how much the ends are lifted in the top photo.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and as always, a learning experience. Final pics show it next to the HM. I think they make a lovely couple.

Sorry about the title Carl - just couldn't resist.

You are welcome Dave!:msp_biggrin:

Who'd you steal this one from? :msp_wink:

Beautiful work - when we gonna get together and share stories and show off machines?

Thanks for all the comments, likes, reps. I opened the carb up yesterday and checked the idle passages. Will try again today and maybe get a video.

Carl,
Just realized I didn't include a photo of the blue tractor that came with it. (oops :taped:)

I've been wanting to host a GTG. Got the place, and I've started to collect some logs. Maybe this Fall.

Great work, Im in leave it in" orignal condition " camp unless you have the skills to turn them into the stunning condition like you have.

Last saw....sure, we believe you.

Never really been 'into the old saw thing', but you have done nicely with the re-build!

I hear ya. I tear them down all the way anyway to clean, check bearings and seals, clean carbon and sawdust, etc. If I planned to use it a lot, I'd probably wouldn't paint. I keep marveling at the engineering that went into these oldies - no computers, hand drawn blueprints, no A/C office to do it in.

That was Sunday. Today's another day. Waiting on a Mall 2MG and a Mac 3-25. Maybe a Pioneer 6-20 too just to take the collection from sand cast to die cast.

Wonder if CAD has ever been linked to PPD (post partum depression)?

I missed this thread also. Your work and attention to detail is amazing. It looks like a nos saw. I love the before and after pics, it really shows the work you've done.
Thanks for sharing, Kevin

Nice work, maybe one day, I'll paint mine up. If you haven't got it running right yet, mine was doing the same thing, just had to open up the needle a bit, the inlet needle was too low, had to bend the lever up some, ran like a top after that.
