Efficient, Low-Emission Engine for Quick Cuts
A chain saw can only perform as well as the engine behind it. This Hitachi saw's 40 cc, 2.4-horsepower commercial-grade engine features PureFire low-emission two-stroke technology. Fewer fumes mean safer operation and less environmental impact. This design makes the saw CARB Tier III compliant for use in California.

In addition, this chain saw's engine is built with Hitachi's S-Start system and a purge primer bulb. This starting system reduces the amount of force necessary for pull starting, which reduces the amount of stress placed on your body.

Bar and Chain Set Increases Efficiency and Reduces Kickback
The Hitachi powerhead comes paired with an 18-inch Oregon bar and chain set with a versatile 3/8-inch pitch. Oregon's products are designed to provide effective cutting performance while reducing kickback for safe operation and controlled cuts.

For safety, an inertia-activated chain break stops chain rotation immediately when. A side-access chain tensioner allows for quick and easy chain adjustment. Two secure bar-mounting studs improve the saw's cutting efficiency.

Compact, Anti-Vibration Design for User Comfort
This saw's five-point anti-vibration system aims to increase user comfort, even in extended-use applications. The saw also features a convenient D-style rear handle.

The powerhead weighs 9.7 pounds, which allows the fully assembled saw to remain manageable when used with most bar sizes.

Warranty Information
This Hitachi 18-inch rear handle chain saw is backed by a seven-year consumer warranty. When used in non-rental commercial applications, the saw is covered by a two-year warranty. When used in rental applications, it is covered by a one-year warranty.

Actually I think that they're a decent brand. Made in Japan. They also rebadge them and sell them under the Tanaka brand. I got a good deal on the identical saw with the Tanaka colors and badges as an early Christmas present to a buddy of mine. I kept it here and played around with it for a couple of weeks...it was kind of hard to let go of it though. Seemed solid and strong, and started flawlessly on the second pull each time.

click the link. It says "made in china" right on it, for what that's worth.

It's worth a lot. For some reason I was not seeing that. I thought maybe it was made in japan or hoping by some stroke of luck it got sourced over here (yeah right).

If it's a Tanaka-made Japanese model, they are good saws. But I can't vouch for the Chinese made Hitachis at all -- no experience with them, good or bad.
