Thoughts on this tooth profile.

I believe this to have been a brand new chain, it doesn’t look to have been touched. The rakers haven’t been touched either. I was into some maple today that was 30+”
This was on my 385 with 28” Total bar. It was chattering so badly I figured something was wrong with it and I ended up grabbing a 390 to do what I was doing and went back to this to look into it after. I took the clutch apart and checked the bearing, also the tip roller and the bar grooves all seemed fine, to me it looks like it needs more hook, I can grind it, or file it and experiment, but for purposes of ruling out, I put a different chain on that I had taken off for sharpening and while it needed a file, it cleared up the chatter.

What Stihl chain is that?
Its .058 3/8 full chisel, but I couldn’t tell you what Stihl calls it. I will look at the box when i get to the shop, but he makes it off a roll and the boxes don’t usually have the chain type on them.

I cut a lot of dirty wood and stump sprouts at work. So I take most of the hook out when sharpening, to reduce my sharpening time. Sure, it cuts a little slower in clean wood, but the less time sharpening more than makes up for it in terms of production. I use 3/8 chain, that the factory says takes a 7/32" file. But after the first sharpening (it won't fit in a brand new chain) I switch to 1/4" to keep the gullet open and the hook out at the same time. I also use semi-chisel most of the time.
 
It looks like a few of the teeth are sharp and a few have the working corner peened over. That will make it a little bit chattery. But overall it looks like it should still cut. A couple swipes up high to get rid of some of the hook will smooth out the chain. Rakers look untouched to me
