I've been looking around, but can't seem to find an online supplier who carries a carb kit for a tillotson HK 42A for an 038. Anyone know where I can get this kit? I also need a gas tank vent line for a stihl 038. Are these made as aftermarket items or is a stihl dealer the only place to get one?

Thanks

The HK kit is readily available... I use them all the time. Watch out for the plastic portion of the HK warping... and pressure test the carb after assembly. You'll have better luck leaving the gasket in place that goes against the plastic body, or, soak the new gasket in White Spirt (Coleman Lantern fluid) for 30 minutes before assembly.

I get mine though a distributor that only deals with Dealer accounts, so If you really can't get one, PM me I'll send one out to you at a decent price. There is a mail order place in the midwest I get kits from that will deal with anyone - but I need to look it up.

The 038 tank vent is just a short piece of stihl fuel line with a special grub screw in it. Do you still have the grub screw?

tillotson kit

I ordered a tillotson carb off Ebay for my 038av, I can't find any numbers on it at all.
It is supposed to be a HK and appears to be. Did not know there were so many HK variants.
I ordered a HK kit for it and it is missing the one gasket I really needed.
The one that goes between the plastic spacer and the main carb body.
I had to scrape that one off piece at a time, after soaking it in mineral spirits for two days.
The saw has a Bing carb on it now and I haven't had any luck finding a cheap carb kit for it that I knew for sure fit.
I thought I would fix both carbs and have a spare. Or just see which one performed the best.
If I knew for sure the carb was a HK42 it might help.
Also does any one have a diagram for a hk? It is no longer on Tillotson website.

Thanks
