A question for the big Husky vet sawyer...had any time behind a 390XP yet? I like my 385XP - it runs nice, powerful, smooth. The 390XP has captured my interest - factory big-bore, larger clutch...seems like a winner. Just wondering if there is a big enough difference to warrant selling my 385 and upgrading to a 390. Or, should I just sell the 385, get a 395 and call it a day? HAHAHAHA, I sound like a newbie "what saw should I buy?" Basically, big saws are big bucks and I don't need a bunch of saws only 10cc apart. I would like a bigger saw (757 Shindaiwa at 73.5cc is my largest) for bigger wood. I am not doing this professionally, just heating my house and cutting for grins. Likely won't be encountering any softwood that a 36" bar can't dismantle. The only things steering me away from a 395 are the fuel consumption and additional weight. Seems like the 390XP might be the best of both worlds between the 385's weight and speed, and the 395's torque. Decisions, decisions - if only I were rich and didn't feel guilty about spending money.

Thanks, Josh

I haven't used a 390 yet,I haven't even seen one,my dealer hasn't had one on his floor yet...So I don't know what to tell you there....If I were gonna spend the money,I'd just get a 395....My 385's have been great,I'll likely replace them with two more 385's when their time is up.

No way a 390 is going to pull a long bar like a 395. But 390 sure going to be lighter (almost a couple pounds). With a light touch and a sharp chain the 390will probably pull a 36 inch bar okay.

What I'm wondering and haven't had a response yet is whether anyone has tried the 390 and 385 back to back and has an opinion on whether Husky's amazing vibration numbers are true on the 390.

The numbers don't reflect it, but my 395 is my second smoothest saw (the 5100 is first) which is amazing for it's displacement. Love running that saw, can run it all day with no problems.

Thanks for the input guys. Pretty easy to spend someone elses money, hahaha. Having a 395 would be great, but I feel it would almost be impractical for me. I don't routinely cut wood large enough to justify it, or highlight it's power. I think the 390XP would pull a 36" bar with skip chain without batting an eye, and will regularly wear a 28". Looks like I have already talked myself into it. Just trying to look before I leap, and I think Timberhauler and Gypo are the two guys with the most time behind a 385. Maybe I need to wait it out a bit!?

385 = $699
390 = $789
395 = $899

I am pretty sure that those numbers don't tell the whole story, as to how the saw feels......:greenchainsaw:
