I went to the expo in Baltimore with the intention of giving this thing a serious look, felt good about what I saw and brought it home. Grinding for me has been too time consuming and definitely one of my weak links. The maneuverability, compactness, operating efficiency were all factors in my decision to move forward. As soon as I got home I took down three small oaks and the round trip distance from trailer to the 3 stumps and back to trailer was a little under two hundred yards; I've done similar jobs using a sc252 ... there is / was simply no comparison. I didn't have a tape measure but to give an idea, the 066 in the picture (loblolly pine) has a 36" bar on it. The picture showing work in progress was right at 10 minutes. Though I'm a ways from my goal.... one truck, one trip , job complete... I firmly believe this is going to help me get there. I'm working off of Arbor Pro's setup (nice concept) and though it's down the road, I think it can be done. Back on topic... after speaking with Dave (Nordgard) I changed my mind and went with the revolution wheel instead of the greenteeth 900 set up... I'm glad I did ... seems more quiet, a little more productive and the chip containment seems to be a little better. Though I had done a little business with Dave in the past (grapple) , we had never met.... I enjoyed meeting him and his crew (good guys) and I like the way he does business. I wish we could have grabbed a beer but you get me that close to A/C, Katy bar the door 'cause I'm gonna find a poker table.

is that a boxer 224? did you buy it from a lot or an auction this past year? Just curious because of the stamped numbers on the side -- looks like it came from the same place I picked mine up from. Really glad to hear you're liking the grinder thus far. I'm anxious to follow your continued happiness with the product. good luck!

Looks sweet! Good idea for the mini-loaders since thier hydraulics are not sufficient to drive a cutter wheel. I had an sg30 on a mini-loader (bobcat) and after a while retired it to the storgae yard. I have since sold the mini, I have tried running it on my s250 with decent results but still too time consuming.

BakerTree, yes it is a 224... I see you are from TX. I first noticed a batch of these on machinery trader in Texas (can't remember name of city) and if I remember correctly there was a holding company with an 828 area code involved (western NC .. Asheville maybe) anyway the serial numbers ranged somewhere around 1320 to 1330 ish... they wanted close to 12 K at the time. I watched these things for about 6 maybe even 8 months and then about 3 of them ended up in Orlando, FL at a Ritchie Brothers Auction. I consulted a friend that makes his living from heavy equipment from Ritchie Brothers and said the heck with it ... I bid online (Oct. '08)... got it for $6,500 and have no regrets (total cost around $8 K)... drained everything, new battery , little weld work but definitely satisfied... I hope you are happy with yours and yes, I will give an update (good or bad) concerning the stump grinder

Treesquirrel & Monkeyman,
thanks guys, & Treesquirrel, I can identify with what you are saying... my signature on the toro stump grinder (hydraulic driven) pretty much sums it up.

how much can something like that lift i use a john deer 2305 tractor with turf tires on it in yards wich is a pretty small tractor. it will lift 1000 pounds around 7 feet easily. im looking at replacing it next year. kinda curious to how much something like that will pick up.

The short answer; around 650 lbs. Keep in mind that counterweight is an issue with this unit and most if not all of the stand on minis... I weigh just shy of 200 and she starts to get up on her toes at around the 650 range.... I've attached a page that gets to the meat and potatoes concerning specs. Reading about your tractor, I would speculate you will be disappointed with speed , height , lift capacity, and turf damage... crap, why the hell did I buy this thing? Kiddin' aside, I guess there are pros and cons to them all. If that tractor is paid for and still getting the job done, I would encourage you to keep on getting it. Best of luck.

ya it is paid for and actually has always worked great it goes places my bobcat wont because of its ability to steer with 4 wheel drive and also does very minimal turf damage. im going to trade it in on a few sizes bigger for a higher lifting compacity next year id like to be in the 1 ton up lifting range.
