I wanted to see if anybody else was dealing with this to or just this area (md). It rains twice a week if not more and the phones not ringing and when it does people just dont seem serious like they used to. It feels like our industry is on a slow spiral downward . We just dont seem to be needed anymore. I sure hope its just few but how many of you guys feel efected out there . thanks :bang:

Keep your head up. You will get calls dont get discouraged. I get times like that too and they always pass. I can go a week without a single call sometimes. You wont get a call for a week then all of a sudden you'll get 4 or 5 in the same day. And its been raining in IN for a week now. Thats why everyones on here. Hard to get the jobs done that you do have when it rains all the time.

Ditto here....it is depressing but it will pass....

When the weather is nice and it will get nice, the calls start to pick up. People are not out in their yards working and landscaping due to the rain. Everytime we have a nice weekend...I get a spike in calls the following Monday morning.

Just need to get through the slow times and be ready to go when the weather breaks.

I have seen a steady uptick in my business over the last 9 months.

yep been raining, how come it rain these last 2 weeks and we just happen to have like 6 huge brush piles to take care of......i hate HO brush piles just throw it on there for years dont matter which way they stack it...o oh the snakes are the bright part of the pile, i never belived how maney tree guys are afraid of snakes and bees, well i see bees IN the tree but come on guys...

we worked in the rain. rain gear, lots of plywood and alturnamats. sent them home after 6 hrs, but we worked until we could hear our socks squishin.

Hey monkeyman and teamtree thanks for the encourgement. Just seems overwhellming sometimes . saw this once TOUGH TIMES DONT LAST TOUGH PEOPLE DO AMEN

Oh yeah, I'm usually a wreck this time of year. Broke from winter and can't get out to work cause its pouring down rain.
Of course it pans out but it takes a few weeks of sunshine to burn away the depresssion. Its the rainy season that hurts the most, I fight the urge to go out and "ruin my equipment in one day", get it all caked up with mud. Plus, jobs are bid for lawn acess.
By the way, does anyone know what happens to a tree guy when he gets wet?

What kinda rain gear you got all i can find i that cheap yellow stuff that rips in about 20 min and uncomfy to work in any suggestions, what keeps you dry?

As for squisy socks, i got some good boots from Halls Saftey Suppy and treat em right my feet dry as can be all day, stood in a little stream last year cutting under brush and stuff for about 6 hours constant flowing water i couldnt belive i was dry!

DDDid yyyou sssay ssssnakes?

I used to carry the .22 with the shot shells, m80's, tyvek suit ( bees) and tons of bb guns in the truck. If it moves its dead, I don't care which direction its running.

Been raining here for over a week. It's not raining today but it's cloudy as hell and the ground is saturated and muddy. I think we got like 8+ inches of rain in the past week. Supposed to rain again tonight and tomorrow. Phones have been pretty much dead. Got a couple of calls on stumps but no real money jobs. I keep thinking that things will pick up anytime now. I'm undecided about paying for more ads right now. Haven't been getting much activity on the ones I do have out and I'm in two yellow pages. I'm thinking about doing some storm chasing if a big hurricane rolls in.

I'll pull through, I always do.

we are using columbia rain jackets and pants. I supply them with that but the boots are on them. You would think they'd buy waterproof boots, but they don't.
We werent climbing, just bucket truck work.

the dan is afraid of a lil rain? hose the equipment off. our tracked equipment was pulling a little mud within the tracks(spider and skid loader) but doesnt really hurt it unless you leave the mud caked on. 5 minutes with the hose for each track and the mud is gone.

It was light rain here and my bills dont wait for the rain to stop. Its scheduled to rain every day except wednesday this week for the PA/NJ area will that mean some of you guys are only going to work one day all week?

Man up boys, 55 degrees and raining isnt gonna hurt you. 30 degrees in the winter non busy season, ya take off, but with work piling up in our busy season, spring time, you gotta complete them jobs as fast as you can, rain or shine.

I'll be out there tomorrow again in the rain, glad to be workin.

Doesn't anyone go fishing in the rain? The fish don't care if it's raining. Kids and I are going after some stripers in the Raritan Bay on Friday.

LT...

Work rain or shine!!

This year has been really busy, but a good deal of it so far has been cleaning up the garbage from the winter. We had a lot of damage from wind and heavy snow, and there is still a lot of work that remains.

Rain days are the days to take care of all the things you wish you had the time for doing when you're busy.

Sharpen all your chains. Don't spend money on new ones because you're busy when everyone calls after that nice weather weekend, while the dull chain pile increases.

Lube everything.

Check your whole vehicle. Air up the tires, top off the fluids, clean out the cabs. Go out looking and feeling like a pro! Feel good about the day's prep/ shop work, rather than bad about not working because of the rain.

I think you'll be less inclined to jump to bid cheaper to win when you're feeling good, than just feeling blah. Looking sharp and being prepared will help you to remember your worth while bidding when the phone is ringing.

This too shall pass.
