bout 10pm i was cleaning the bottum limbs of a sycamore at one of the parks here. had worked my way down the tree and was on the last limb. very long limb.... had alot of line out when i got to the end of it. went around one branch to crotch my lines incase i did have a spill. stood both feet on the limb, weight on line, for just a second to grab my handsaw. thats when i lost my balance. tryed to grab the main limb on the way down and a little 2 incher got in my way, which snapped and swung with me.

redirect worked great i swung about 5' off the ground when i would hit pretty good. was using one of the rawhide crotch protectors luckily. so i was able to pull myself straight up then tend my slack with the prusik pulley. then i grabbed the slack end of my rope above the branch and pulled myself up with a 3:1 the rest of the way back ontop of the limb. cut the limb that broke and finished the rest of the limb.

was kinda fun lol. although i must say i dont mean to repeat it anytime soon lol

I've taken 2 swings, one was about 10', the other probably 25', one I landed with my ribs into the trunk, and the other I landed tailbone first into a good sized limb. In either case, be happy you didnt hit too much hard stuff. :)

Glad you're OK.

I took two swings off of the same limb about two years ago. The first was no big deal and I was expecting it. It was like a Disney ride on the second one. As I was just about to hit the ground, a large upright limb broke from my hitting it as I fell and came right at me, as I was looking straight up at it. Just before it was about to hit me, my line took up the slack and jerked me out of the way and for a ride of about twenty feet towards the main spar. Right before I hit it, I scraped the ground with my heels and came to a stop. So much for ever again trying to walk up a downed, 45 degree inclined log with a heavy saw hanging off my belt.

that reminds me lol. the limb that broke twisted up all sorts of caught in my line while i was dangling lol. had to cut it up a few times with the handsaw to get it out.

was abit of a hairy ride. i was wondering on the way down just how much line i had paid out and whether the limb i redirected on was gonna hold. when i swung it was enough momentum to make me wind up upside down. so i wound up with my legs crossed around the line looking a dirt for a second or two lol.

swings can be sketchy, especially if you're falling down a bit before you start swinging back....take the odd swing out forestry climbing as we use a grapple hook an ascender and come 8mil to help us swing from tree to tree...of coures we're tied into our rapelling line but once and awhile the limb your claw is hooked on breaks or pops off and the swingback begins...
