I am repairing a drop-damaged Stihl MS180 and need a top cover. Apparently, there are two versions of this saw? Different air filter housings and top cover - see photo. Standard 170 / 180 parts do not fit. The one I need is the second photo - Larger protrusion on top and angled on the starter side. May have found one on ebay. Also, what's the difference betwen the 180, 180c, and 180c-be? My starter cover only shows 180.

I believe the difference is mainly the chain adjuster and the recoil starter.
MS 180 regular starter and front chain adjuster
MS 180 C regular starter and easy adjust chain built into the clutch cover
MS 180 CBE easy start recoil and easy adjust chain

Any Top covers from the last 10 years 170/180 saws use the
cover you need

Wrong. There are two versions for the 180 - The one from my 170 does not fit. My 180 takes a different air filter housing and top cover. Just got the AF housing today and it fits fine. See differences in the top cover
below.

My 180 has the through-the-cover adjustment and two nuts - like my 361. It doesn't seem to have an EZ start. I just started it and it pulled like the 170. I thought it might be a frankensaw but the pics above show two differnt versions. Got the right cover coming, should fit.

All depends
on production date ,,
Im not wrong !!
Go to your local Stihl dealer
and you'll see the covers are the same on both saws . Now we are not talking about 171's and 181's
