Just demoed one on Friday. They're alright, could use a little more depth. I thought that the swing to the right only would be a pain, but once you get used to it it wasn't that bad. It did contain the chips nicely. Toro is coming out with a 38hp version so I think I'll wait.

A local rental place has one of those. The owner says those that rent it, are not real happy with the performance. Several tree service companies rent grinders from him, so these comments are from experienced operators. When they reserve a grinder now, they specify one of his self-propelled rubber tire units, not the Toro. The main complaint is low horsepower, and the machine is way to light in the front end. Wheel will just ride up on the stump a lot of the time.
When I was waiting for my new grinder to arrive, I looked at renting his Toro. i passed and went with the Bandit machines he had. did not like what i saw in this Toro.
I heard last week, that the rental guy has just recently gotten rid of that Toro grinder, even though it was nearly new. After one use, no one would rent it again.

Hey Ronnyb,

Where did you hear Toro was coming out with a 38hp version? Would be interesting to look at.

The salesman told me. I also read it online at one of the tree forums. I demoed it on a line of shrubs, a couple of small spruce, and one 24 inch maple. It worked pretty well for what it is. I agreee that its a little small hp wise, so I'll wait for the 38hp model to make a decision.

Why can't they just bring one out with a bigger engine to start with :angry3:

I will still go ahead with the demo
