Yummmm.

That looks like a very nice walnut burl. That will surely fetch some nice $$$ from woodturners, etc.

I cut this on Sunday and it was real work for an 084. Looks like a giant truffle doesn't it? This knarly knorb eats chains. Mike

It will burn a long time in a good wood stove ! :) ;)

Did you cit in that onion as well, if you did, please post some pics, that must look incredible.

Not to mention hard on the chain.

The size is about 4.4 feet in diameter and about 2.6 feet the other direction. There was also six pieces of trunk with a lot of crotches, and various diameters from 20 inches down to about 12 inches. I hope to sell it to some company for vineer, gun stocks, bowls, dash boards etc. I would post it in the For Sale section but the shipping to you guys back East would be rather high. The estimate of weight is about 2500 pounds! Mike

Lobo, just burn your cash instead, it would be cheaper :D

Rupe, the heck with selling that to any manufacturer types. Slice and dice it yourself, put it on ebay and you'll make out. How many pen blanks in 2500 lbs of burl? ;)

Seriously...how much are you looking at if you sell to the big guys? How much will it sell per BF (approx)?

If I am close your area, I'll be there in a heartbeat and ask for the same offer you are giving Trimmmed ;).

I hear you about it eating your chains though....I had a similar experience with my bandsaw blades cutting manzanita root burls....it was filled with sand and rocks :(.

Thanks DarioMO and you are welcome to the same offer. Texas is closer than NY. You can sleep in my travel trailer. I have no idea as to price. The feelers are out and we will see. I had a chance to acquire this from a friend and took him up on his offer. He has two more to remove in the near future plus a cherry tree. As you can see I painted the exposed grain to keep it from drying too quickly. It should be alright for a while until I find someone interested. Mike

Is this Claro Walnut, Mike? From what I see it wont be worth much for gunstocks. A good gunstock needs a straight grain through the grip with figuring in the butt. If the grip area has figure in it the recoil will brake it in short order.
Next time save the roots. Especillay big root where they join the stumpas the root is typical striaght grain and the area where it joins the stump is figured.

Your crotch's are what you want for gun stock. The burl is worth it's most money as veneer. They use if for dash boards on Mercedes Benz. If you try and cut that up yourself and you'll lose your a$$.
