Tractor mounted woodsplitters

I'm cosidering building a wood splitter to run off the hydraulic system of my 55hp tractor. Does anybody know anything about these types of setups? Good or bad? Somebody told me the cylinder would operate too slow unless I put a pump on the pto. If that's the case it would be about the same cost to just buy a small engine and hydraulic oil tank.

There are a number of production models out there for PTO hook-up. They work well for low volume operations. Not outrageosly priced
