Hi again,

Well, I returned the smoking Mac 310 saw this weekend, and friend said, "I gave the saw to you, trade it in on a good saw".

O.K., I'm considering Husky 350, and Stihl MS250, MS260.

Anybody know how much I can expect on a trade-in on these saws?

Thanks,

If you go with the Stihl line, spend the extra and get the ms260.
Where in Kentucky are you at? We are getting a few Kentuckians
here, this is getting serious. Otto will start to worry.

If you are going to trade, check your area for a Jonsered dealer,.Jonsered/ husky very simliar. They had a good trade in deal recently.

Jonsered 2149, best bang for the buck right now woth the trade in deal. Depending on the saw you get any used complete chainsaw (need not run) is worth up to $150.00. I could be wrong on the amout but I know it's a lot more than you could sell most of the trade ins for.

Junker,
Your Mac is not really worth anything on a trade. A dealer would have to re-sell it or part it out to get his money back and there is not a good resale on Mac's, and many shops won't work on them. Best bet would be to look for a dealer that has a "bag and drag" promotion going. At least it will look like you are getting something for it.
Jonsered and Efco have one going now on some models, don't know about Stihl or Husqvarna.
Also the Jonsered CS2152 is out now, and is replacing the 2149. May be a good time to catch a deal on an instock '49. The CS2152 has 2 more cc's and 2/10 more hp than the '49, sells for about the same. Efco has the 947 at 3.1 hp, and the 952 at 3.4hp for $300 or less.
By the way, the bag and drags work of "list" pricing, not what the dealer may normally sell the saw for. Cash often talks louder than a trade. Watch your bottom line.

I find it amazing you guys can even find a place that takes trades. Never seen a place that takes in used stuff except a pawn shop!:blob2:

I just took in a sweet 670s on a trade for a 2165. It will get a new chain and a good clean up and is already sold, at a good margin.
Took in a 455 two weeks ago on a 2149, just to get the parts. Allowed $25 for it, sold the lower handle for $10, the starter cover for $17, and the coil for $20, gave the muffler to a regular customer n/c.
Most McC's, Homelite's, Poulans etc. go to the dumpster. Trade just for customer goodwill. (I will not sell a saw that does not have a functional brake, it is getting to the point that I won't even take then in to work on them.)

Mack,I see a lot of dealers on Ebay selling those trades, and I'm thinking they're doing fairly well on 'em. Even them teapot Homies and McC's almost always get enough to pay for the cost of doing business on Ebay.

I hate to think of a good saw going to the dump, although whether or not a Homie super-2 fits the category is a whole 'nother thing!

i was up talkin to the husky dealer and s
she said thet dont do it much and never for any big prfessional saws unless the deal is real sweet. she had a 371 rental that she wanted 3 for but i declined for the same reason she mentioned. unless its rebuilt by a good mechanic. most ive seen look like the logger got the best they had to give, an got rid of it when it started givin too much trouble. jmo.
now rebuilt by the rite mechanic is a different thing altogather.

Mack makes good points.

The 956 Efco / CS56 John Deere is a good saw for the dollar.

Those trade deals are like car dealer deals; you got to know what you can buy outright for before you know what a trade is really worth. Some novice marketeering student must of thunk up these trade deals. I don't insult my customers with them.

In my low overhead operation, I stick with a split between full list and cost. Then that varies a little with customer attitude.

Mack, you dump any older big Macs or Homelites? I'd be interested if you do, for the collection.

Mack,

As most people here I would be interested in any of the saws you are going to send to the dumpster. I stopped by a saw shop while on vactaion this summer. I told him I was looking for used saws. He showed me some of his saws. He priced them to me and they seemed decent. I was about to shoot him an offer on a 028 and 034 together when I noticed a Homelite SXL. Since I collect Homelites I decided to strt by making a offer on the SXL. When I ask about it he said it did not run. I said I would give him $20 cash for it. He laughed and said no. He went on to say that he had just thrown away a 330 and a 360 Homelite. The 330's are junk but the 360's are great saws. I thought "what a idiot, he will not take $20 for a SXl but he would throw away a 360". If he would have took $20 for the SXL I would have probably paid his full asking price for the 028 and 034. I walked out of his shop with nothing. Please let me know when you want to get rid of some of the saws condemmed to the dumpster,

Bill

Mack,
If you get any Pioneer saws in I'd be very interested. I also know quite a few other guys that would be also. I usually offer $15-$30 for parts saws depending on condition. So don't throw those away!:)
