The Traverse is a great, bullet proof harness. It is ideal for nasty jobs like pines and palms and with the bosun seat is comfortable enough to use all day. It is also heavy, bulky and has a bridge which if it wears out cannot be replaced. I upgraded to a Sequoia for shorter climbs, pruning and love the difference in weight and flexibility it gives.

I buy my new climbers a Traverse to learn in because they are hard to break but if they buy something of their own later on thats cool too.

That leather bridge looks like it would last along time though.Plus I only climb part time so it would last me quite a long time.

Yes it is very tough. Just don't nick it with a saw or the whole saddle goes in the bin. I still rate the traverse as a great starting saddle though because it is so hard to break.

If I bought the Cougar I would at least be able to replace the bridge.

I think its so funny to read about the cougar and how everyone is climbing on it when its a buckingham glide. There is no difference yet the glide has been out longer. The traverse is great if you don't like a lot of freedom when you climb. Its great to sit in for cabling, lightening protection, removals, but its junk for limb walking, climbing small trees, or trees with tight crotches like zelkovas, columnar maples, etc, thats more a function of the bossun seat than the saddle itself.

I've been looking at both the Glide II and the Cougar. The glide II seems a little nicer from what I've seen and is considerably lighter than the Cougar. Major difference in price too. Looking at about an extra $140 for the Glide ll over the Cougar. Does anyone here climb on a Glide ll?

Just got my Cougar saddle today.
Seems to be fairly comfortable, but I only tried it for a few minutes before dark. The weight of the saddle doesn't feel bad at all although I never tried anything lighter to compare it to.
I need to make some adjustments to dial it in and possibly add a longer bridge.
I'll try to get in a tree tomorrow and get a better feel for it.
