Tree bark removed or possibly girdled. HELP…!

Thank you. What do you mean by chewed? A neighbor of ours had wondered if someone peeled the bark off for a fire-starter or something like that. I ended up spraying a square around the bark area, as it looked ugly. So there is a black square around the missing bark area and some prune spray on the bark also.

Horse, deer sheep, goat etc.......

My guess was that it was bumped into by a piece of machinery or a car. Maybe during a septic system installation of some landscaping years ago.

Looks like it's healing though
