ive been lurking and reading this site for years and finally have a question i would like to ask the community. tree bylaws----did they help your business or hurt business? my local municipality is looking to set up bylaws that require permits for tree trimming and removal in the near future and im wondering if it would require certification to work on trees. i feel this could help because it may reduce the amount of people doing tree work without cert, thus helping business.

Some local ordinances specify Board-Certified. :) It pays to lend a hand in the drafting of the regs. ;)

I can happily say that after 7 years of being a CA I am letting my cert run out at the end of the year.
I guess when that happens I will know less than I know now.

wolf, a lot of towns and cities around Raleigh spec CA. Dropping a certification that is so cheap and easy to keep is a good way to cut yourself out of profitable work. pm/email if u want re your town.

All the municipalities around here that have tree permit requirements (~90%) have CA requirements. The requirements are usually for the CA to make the prescription but you don't need a CA to do the work.

And before everyone gets there knickers in knot about CA's without experience doing prescriptions, remember that 30 yr construction foremen have to follow the directives of 22 year old engineering grads. The piece of paper matters.
