Tree girdled by cable

I have an avacado that someone staked useing 1/4 in cable around the trunk. Its already 90% grown into the trunk. Should i at this point try and pull it out? Im afrade this may do more damage. Its well deformed ware it comes in contact with wire. What course of action if any should i do? Thanks.
