Tree ID?

Leafsnap HD app for my IPad is useful tool.
The leaf photos are superb quality.
I haven't used it yet to try to get an unknown leaf identified, but it is a cool app.

I see these things all over. Most of the deciduous trees are fully leafed out by now, most of which started in January-February. This guy is still dormant. What is the ID on this? I am in Socal.

A redbud on steroids?

The limbs, seed pod and bark look identical to redbuds around here. Only thing different is size, ours don't get large like that.
