just got done with removing 10 trees from a guys yard. It started with three tree all hazard trees to structures and all over 14" in dia charged $550 for them. What kind of price on average is charged per tree for take downs? had to climb two of them.:greenchainsaw:

need a lot more info. 10 trees, 8 drops, 2 climb top and drop? Wood removal, chipping stumping? Or was it just to put the trees on the ground?

I did 5 light prunes today and 1 removal for $500. Was supposed to be 6 prunes but they decided to remove one. The lady asked me if it was still the price I quoted when she wrote the check and I told her that would be fine. I decided not to add on for the removal. I foresee more work in my future with these people and I am sure they will refer me. Plus they were a nice couple and I liked them. I was still done with all the trees in 4 hours (my projected time goal) but had to spend an extra half hour humping some logs out of there and cleaning up. I usually try to shoot for $125 an hour and would have been right on target with that today had it not been for the add on of the removal. Last year I would have gotten $750 for that job though.

tree removal

the total we charged him was $1750 for 10 take downs remove brush to another spot on the land, and bucking most up into firewood for him. three trees worth of brush he pushed with his tractor and most all the wood he moved as well, we loaded the bucket. The hourly rate came out to be around $73 an hour and we gave him two trees free of charge just dropped the over the bank. He wasnt to happy with the cleanup we did for what we charged.

Just so you know , always make the customer happy even if it means you don't profit. I have eaten a few jobs as it is going to happen from time to time but if you leave customers unhappy they will haunt you for eternity. Remember bad word travels much faster than good and always has a more profound result. It won't take long to learn to bid right for work performed if you always make the customer happy.

Hmm... your math is not adding up there friend. First you say $550 then $1750. I mean if you did them for $550 a piece that would be $4400 minus the two you threw in for free. I'm a little confused with your numbers.

$1750 doesn't sound bad if all the trees were just over a foot in diameter and $73 an hour is not bad in these times, depending on how many people you are using, degree of liability and what equipment. On the cleanup deal, always make sure the customer is crystal clear on what the deal is and signs off on that. Your looking for repeat business and referrals. Not good to leave an unhappy client.

Sounds like he got a decent deal and you did okay. If its just you and one helper not to bad. Hopefully you will get some referrals out of it and make it a little more worth while. $73 an hour means 23 hours? or is that 11.5 x 2 for you and a helper.

the 550 was for the first three then he kept throwing in more trees. aprox 11.5 hrs for help and me. my help was the one who bid the first three and was also the one who decided on being slack on the clean up. how ever the client still wants us to take down four more trees. Three oaks threatening his house and a heavy leaning pine towards his garage. When finshed i am going to make it clear to have all the mess cleaned up and not leave til the customer is satisfied, my intentions the first time.

Sounds better don't leave him unhappy or he will be my or someone else' s client

well, sometimes that is not so bad, is it? I tell ya, I have told a few nutzo ladies and germs to stop bothering me. Sometimes they know you are thinking that same thing you just mentioned and take advantage. So everyjob you do this and don't profit?
I can see if you underbid and you barely break even you have to still do the job like you said but when you tell the guy this is what the money gets you beforehand?

If I have those type jobs it gets ink placed with copies made for him her I understand the advantage taking type and sometimes I am hard to find or get very busy etc. I understand it may not make them happy either but what can they say he is too busy to let me take advantage of him again lol.

in all rights he is a business man running his own business after coming out of retirement and had to deal with his workers at the same time we were there. He wasnt in a good mood when we showed up but who knows. if all people were predictable life would be pretty boring.
