many cutsotmers are asking me to do valuations of their trees to claim a loss on their income tax. I have never had to do one before. I bought a book from the ISA on how to do it. The book is very informative but I still am uncomfortable with singing my name on a valuation. I would like some detailed help with this project. Do any of you have an example I could look at? Or, is there anyone in my area (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Jackson, hattiesburge, Mobile) willing to give me a hands on lesson on the steps and how to write one up. I am a degreed forester and have worked in the timber industry before and have plenty of expierience on estimating timber value, but that is a different stroy.

Check policy for Irs on casualty limits. I haven't done one in ages. Right a t first, we did alot. Then the rules changed and the loss had to exceed...Ten per cent of your adjusted gross income, I think. In most cases, it wasnot worth doing. But in a calamity like what you are facing... Maybe!

It's been a while, but if memeory serves me the IRS will accept amenity value of tree loss as a casualty deduction.

The client may get burned in an audit.

Maybe Guy could query the ASCA listserv on that for us?
