SO I have a job in the hollywood hills for this British chap. Really cool guy- has an Aston Martin and 3 sweet looking vintage Austin Mini-coopers (never thought I would use "Sweet looking" and "Mini-cooper" in the same sentence).

Anyways he's got a dead mulberry and wants to replace it with a 36" avocado. The street is narrow and there is also no crane access due to power lines. The place where he wants the avocado (which the nursery said somehow weighs 2,000 pounds) is within a fence and deck. The only way to get it through is to remove this row of bamboo to get through a door in his large fence which goes onto the deck.

I am trying to convince him to get a 24" which I can carefully maneuver through his house on a hand truck. But he's pretty convinced he wants to spend the extra money on the 36".

Any ideas??? I suppose I could have the lines taken down temporarily for the crane but that would be quite an inconvenience for the rest of the neighborhood.

I'd tell him you'll do it if he lends you the aston for a week.

You can float any object pretty much anywhere manually with the right combination of ramps, steel plates, ply, load skates, friction devices and winches. I've skated 20 tonne buckets through sheds by hand, and slid structural steel into place half a mile underground using not much more than load skates, comealongs and steel wedges. Just depends how much gear you've got, how inventive you are, and how much time the guy is willing to pay for. Some big items only move 1/4" at a time. A mile is a long way in 1/4" steps.

Don't get to into it Mike, this guy just be yankin yer franklin. Give a hefty price for the big tree, one you will know will cover you ( and the mini rental) and don't think about it til he says go.
