I got called out on this poplar that had broken off and was hanging over a fence and stuck in another Poplar and a Maple. I could not really climb any of it so I got a portable lift. I secured the two poplars together with two ratchet straps then butt tied it with a rope run through a block connected to a white pine and used a rope puller to lift the butt. I used the lift to remove the top then cut the main trunk and lowered the butt over the fence and cut the rest with the lift. I also removed the second poplar also as it was right next to their pool and had carpenter ants that had eaten half way through the tree about 15 feet from the top.

Very nice rigging, but that could have been climbed. nothing wrong with your decision either to not climb it, stay safe.

What i did not show and wish I had was how much top was hung up in between the maple and the poplar before I cut it out. The maple was not tall enough to be effective for climbing so I got the lift, and since I had it why not use it. Thanks for the comments.

i still say its an aspen.

It makes me mad when guys call these NON poplars poplars. A true poplar is a yellow poplar. At least as far as the mill is concerned..

Damn poplars. .

Yes, as far as the mills are concerned. But Yellow-poplar is related to the Magnolias, not even a poplar at all; hence the hyphen.

I agree, definitely not aspen, too dark. Leaning more towards maple based on the last picture.

Sure the hell looks like what we call a poplar.

I was never able to figure out the proper latin name of this one though.. my guess would be Populus deloides (Eastern Cottonwood) near as I can figure.
