I recently constructed this sling-reel set up and am having trouble getting it to fire a 1 oz lead sinker. Neither the line nor the projectile appears to be hanging up on anything. I've fiddled with the drag on the reel and get the same results with different amounts of drag: the projectile just doesn't go any further than a few feet when fired. I'd appreciate any suggestions. I'm using a Daiwa Millionaire Classic 300L baitcasting reel and a Marksman sling. My best guess is that there is a more appropriate reel for the job.

Thanks!

With Baitcasters, the faster the weight is moving, the more drag they add, because the drag system works off of cylindrical force.

Put a Zebco 33 on it, and you won't have any problems, other than maybe breaking a window a couple of blocks away.

Jeff - eat a Snickers bar, dude.
You get sorta grumpy when you're hungry.

Oh come on jeff... you know we're nearing the cusp of a revolution in modern arboriculture, when the hose clamps, PVC and Wrist Rocket come out.. not to mention the Zebco!! Haha.

The Big Shot has a Zebco 33 on it, even though SherrillTree calls it a Zinger Slinger or something, it's still a Zebco 33, just like they call Tachyon, Lava.

I do respect SherrillTree for not using PVC though. I think I'll start calling the new guy "Tree Plumber".

Forget the wrist rocket/ Zebco Zinger; I wanna know if the average tree guy can tear down and install a carb kit in 20 minutes.

In the dark, with nothing but a chainsaw file and a roll of duct tape, but it only takes 5 minutes.

Good Lordy. I get what carby meant but used the wrong word. You mean centrifugal force, and/or centripetal force. VA is rite as far as I know, never heard of cylindrical force, especially not in that context. Oh, and hey Carby, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't neg rep me like you did the last time I challenged your incompetence. :jester:

Well then, I guess we don't need any cylindrical force transducers; Do we?

Not gonna derail any further. Would like you to know that this apparatus is indeed a force reducer that's in the shape of a cylinder. What I was saying is there's no force called cylindrical force that I'm aware of. Doesn't matter though I'm over it

Yes there is, it's the outward force that generated by something spinning about a center axis, like when your tiny little brain goes spinning around in your big crack smoking head.

dude he is right there is no such thing... maybe you were thinking of centrifugal force but I can understand the confusion since its not something you do for work or know anything about. Kind of like tree work. There is no reason to be rude and insulting when someone simply points out that your wrong.

you are 100% correct. Dont worry he will also run to the mods and complain I am surprised he has not been weeded out with the rest of trouble makers. He has a long track record of coming in and posting BS, being insulting in his arguments and then running to the mods. Eventually they are going to figure him out and he will be shown the door.

Check out bow fishing reels. That would be the way to go. BowViper - AMS Bowfishing Original Retrieval Reel 310R-12
I just wonder how much line they carry?
Thanks for posting this info beastmaster, very interesting, I was not aware of these. I know this is a little off the question of this tread but I'm always looking for ways to recover the throwline. I hope someone who knows about these or has tried them will answer your question, would be interesting to learn about.
I'm using this for working in the tree and like it but each one only holds about 50' of Zing-it 1.75mm.

Get a small fly fishing reel. You can hang it from your harness while up in the tree. Works great.
