Guy comes into the shop0 last night with a Stihl 032 and says the pull start is not working and it quit ideling. So While I am fixing the pull start he is bragging about how he has never done a thing to old trusty in ten yeasrs since he bought it used.
So I get the pull start fixed and pull the cover off of the carb box and this is what I found:

The crap on there was literally 1/8" thick and packed on. I can't hardly believe it ran at all. I told him to buy a tractor if he was going to plow dirt with it. :chainsawguy:

I don't know.
My grandad gave me an old Mac 550 when I was 15. My maintanance and care left a lot to be desired. It was still running strong when I retired the old beast. It was a lot tougher than I was.

I have an echo cs300 I got caught in a storm and forgot
to put rain gear on bucket next mourning saw under water
still cuts today was totally submerged overnite

That reminds me of how I let a friend of mine who is an "epxierienced sawyer" borrow one of my saws last week....he returned it with two BRAND NEW full comp chisel chains destroyed...One had about eight cutters mutilated, five destroyed and one gone...on one chain. The other one was even worse!!! Some guys are clueless.

There are some tools you just can't loan out. I once loaned a brand new 8" C clamp to a guy doing a brake job. Hameless right...wrong. It came back twisted and mutilated. Its hanging on the wall as an example why I don't loan tools anymore. Especially Chainsaws!!!!
I watched my neihgbor a couple of yrs ago use a brand new Chainsaw as a stump grinder. Yehhhhhh baby.....major tool abuse, major.

Welcome to my world... This time of year I get about 10 PER WEEK of 031 or 032 like that. But.. rare to ever find a bad piston or cylinder in one... Those saw aren't ever going to die! Often the dirt is bcause the insert in theback of the clutch cover is missing, or the rubber plug to the right of the carb is gone, but sometimes they just get like that anyhow...

Stihl 032

One of the few Stihls I've never had to pleasure to run. Looks like I need one!

have to say the same,,,,, the P/C's are usually good but alot of stipped screw holes,,,,and stuff falling off,,,, Hello Timeserts

I know I know
25-30 year old pieces of junk,,, They just don't last like they used to!!!!:monkey:

Nice pics! (yikes!) Obviously has taken some deep thought and time ta pack all that dust in there so well! (am amazed it still ran too, where was the H & L set by then?). :hmm3grin2orange:

I place my 'toughest saw' bid with me old 08s, some don't care much for 'em but mine has been bullet proof (well it was till I pulled it all apart, may shoot that sucker yet GAH!), for a li'l beast thats sawn more wood than most see in a lifetime it was running like a clock before the ignition wire packed it in, not bad for something 30+ years old and 30$ second hand near 15yrs ago, hmmmmmmmm, maybe deserves a paint job............... *sigh* , I miss it (it has my 24" on it and new chain I can't use on anything else :D )

I seen my local Ace hardware store rents out a chainsaw. (Stihl btw)

I often wondered what condition it comes back in. :chainsaw:

I know of a rental place that rents them also. They have to figure a new bar and chain into every rental. He said much of the time they go out to a demolition site not the woods. They cut through nails, screws and you name it. Needless to say the bar and chain are junk. I'm not sure everybody is that stupid, they just figure on renting so its not their peice of equipment they tear up.
